Guest guest
I store things in my dishwasher.LOL I do! I have everything so organised. My toaster sits out and food processor. Most things are covered and in the garage where I can reach them easily. Oh, absolutely.....our house is pretty small, 1400 sq. feet. The kitchen is full of regular stuff, plus a huge butcher block we store big pans on a shelf attached under. Two drawer pans, way too many bowls. Utensils everywhere, 2 drawers & 1 basket of them. Counter space devoted to kitchenaid mixer and food processors. 1 double cupboard with machines; bread machine, immersion blender, pasta maker, waffle iron, crockpot, hand mixer, ice crusher, etc. A corner cupboard in another room houses the good china and large platters and bowls...There is a small, windowless room in the basement where all the canned goods lurk with my fondue pots, tortilla press, special baking pans, food mill(s), muffin tins, canning pots, whatever else won't fit upstairs.I get most of my stuff resale, garage sale, or free, so I can always justify it. Now I must go mill more tomatoes. Amy ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Guest guest
Then where do you store your dirty dishes? Guest guest
yes! but what is a happy cook to do? I have an espresso/coffee machine, toaster oven, rice cooker, microwave on the counter & in the cabinet the food processor, ice cream maker & blender. The juicer, deep fryer are in the basement. no panini gizmo. oh the kitchen aid mixer is in the cabinet. actually, the bigger problem is the spices. I've run out of room & don't know where to go. I took about a dozen cookbooks into the basement yesterday because the bookcase was overloaded. I need a bigger house! I think it boils down to if you ever use it, you will find a home for it. many things don't get a lot of use but I'd hate to not have them when I want them. GO FOR IT! I would like to get a few extra items but my wife says we don't have enough counter and cabinet space for all the things I think I would find useful and would I really use them enough to justify that space? Admittedly she says the same thing about shelf space for books and CD's, all shelve space and the tops of many book and CD cases being already quite full. Guest guest
I store mixing bowls and such in my dishwasher. Comes in very handy since I handwash my dishes. I have quite a bit on the counters but it is a nice comforting look to me. I use everything that is out and I'm always adding something new. Guest guest
I guess I'm pretty lucky....I have 5 1/2 feet of counter space to store my often-used appliances. I have my toaster oven, iced-tea maker, seltzer maker, blender, coffeemaker and juicer. My bread machine is on the other counter. My cabinets store not-quite-as-often-used appliances like espresso machine, waffle iron, food processor and stand mixer. I have drawers and drawers of kitchen gadjets. At holiday time, my son goes to his gourmet kitchen store and buys me whatever new items come out each year! One of the neatest things he got me was an automatic stirrer. It sits atop a pan and has blades that rotate and stir. I don't use it often, but it is a timesaver when I make gravies or puddings. That one was named " Item of the Year " a couple years ago. Guest guest
I bought a microwave cart with two shelves that fits at the end of my counter. It holds my juicer and machines use often. It is the same height as my counter, and works well. It also is on wheels. I bought it at Home Depot. Sue aka BK ---- Gary Mattingly 09/15/07 11:04:33 Question about counter space Hi, I read about people's juicers and food processors and bread machines and paninis, etc. Do you all have a problem with counter and cabinet space? I would like to get a few extra items but my wife says we don't have enough counter and cabinet space for all the things I think I would find useful and would I really use them enough to justify that space? Guest guest
I live in a very small apartment (with dog and toddler also, mind you). I have a closet next to the kitchen that I stash my crockpot, bread-machine, foreman and rice cooker in, among many other things. For me, these are worth the space they take up, because they save me a lot of time in the kitchen, and I don't like cooking on the stove all the time. I have to comment, I am relieved I don't co-exist with a significant other in my small space! I like all of my toys and fancy gadgets, and they take up too much space.
