Do any of you make and eat Yogurt? My daughter wants to make yogurt

for her kids and wants a maker for her birthday. Do any of you have

advise on what is the best brand to buy. She is looking at a

yogourmet because it makes 2 quarts at a time, but if it doesn't work

well and make good yougurt that is just more waste.

I put one in the files a long time ago. I would imagine there are

others also. I never use the commercial makers. I just use a pan

and a lid and the oven.

I have used a commercial yoghurt maker called ezy-yo. You buy packets of dry

ingredients and mix with water. The packets come in different flavours and some

are low fat/low sugar. You have to read the labels carefully as some of the

flavours are very high in sugar. The taste was good, very low cost to make.

I have made yogurt and you can try this out first, if it is a hit then

invest in a yogurt maker or just continue with the recipe.

I used a glass gallon jar from a restaurant.

I put 3 1/2 cups of cold water,

3 1/2 cups of boiling water and

3 1/2 cups of skim milk powder

Mix together with 1/2 cup of my last batch of yogurt or plain organic

yogurt from the store.

Screw lid on.

I then took a medium sized cooler and filled it about 1/3 of the way

with very warm tap water(about 112 degrees).

Place gallon jar in warm water in cooler. Mine is ready in about 5

hours. The longer you leave it the more " tang " it will get.

It also is not as thick as store yogurt because there is no geletin.

I have never found a need to buy a yogurt maker, I prefer tools and

apppliances that serve more than one purpose.
