Guest guest
Hello, I've had a problem with my eyes being very dry, even to the extent that I could not focus on small print one morning (I couldn't read the newspaper and I couldn't read the monitor that well without increasing the font size). I went to the doctor (Kaiser HMO) and in addition to taking OTC wetting drops during the day, he said I should start taking flax seed oil to help my eyes work better at lubricating themselves. I think it had to do with the pores which lubricate my eyes getting clogged. I thought it was interesting that the doctor suggested this and not some prescription or OTC drug. Of course, he is both young and from India where I assume/think that such suggestions are looked upon more favorably. Guest guest
Interesting, Gary. I take flax seeds every day, usually in my smoothie. I don't take the oil presently, but I may at some point. Gandhi was quoted as saying " Wherever flax seeds become a regular food item among the people, there will be better health. Guest guest
I think everyone may have misunderstood. I am looking for a substitute for taste, not health. Guest guest
How about mixing some brown miso (1tbsp) with some liquid smoke (a couple of drops) and toasted sesame oil (1/4 tsp). Mix in some water to dilute it. You'd probably have to play with the ratios. But that should give you the right taste. You could also experiment with vegetarian Worchestershire sauce (Wizard's Organic Anchovy-free is the one I use). Good luck!
