Guest guest
My favorite sandwich is sauteed onion with Veganaise. Cold or hot, onions are one of my many favorite foods. Sometimes I add Bell Peppers and freshly sliced garlic with the onions. Makes me salivate just thinking about it. Guest guest
We are in mourning in the North Georgia Mountains. Vidalias are not in season anymore. And the sweet onions we have now are very strong and not sweet at all. Guest guest
Sue I thought that Vidalia onions were sweet because of the type of onion but even more so because of the low sulphur content of the soil. If that is so then why would the onions be so pungent? GB , " Sue " <kup wrote: > > We are in mourning in the North Georgia Mountains. Vidalias are not in > season anymore. Guest guest
Sue, If we are lucky here in Colorado we might get Vidalia Onions shipped in for a very short time. They are so good that I am told farmers pick and eat them raw ..I believe it. I love onions and the Vidalias are wonderful. We are getting some very nice locally grown yellow and white onions. The whites are expensive but tasty. Fresh home grown pinto beans are now at the farms. I bought a 10 Lb. bag and will share with friends and family. I remove the beans from the bag and store them in quart canning jars. My daugter has some antique canning jars with the glass tops and I filled them with the new beans. They look wonderful on the kitchen counter. Guest guest
The " sweet " onions I am using now are strong and not sweet. They are replacing the vidalia onions. I have no idea where they are from. Guest guest
Deanna, when we lived in Florida, I was forever bugging the produce man when the Vidalias would be in. The season was so short. And although I always bought a large bag, they spoiled before I could finish the bag. 8-( One of my one line friends from Texas claims that his Texas sweet onion is, by far, much sweeter. We almost got into virtual fisticuffs. Guest guest
I slice or chop and freeze the extra ones so I have them available. I also slice or chop peppers when the price is way down and freeze them.
