Guest guest
I like orange juice, but for about the last 15 years I have stayed away from it because about 80% of the time it gives me a sour stomach and I just feel yuck all day. My granddaughter told me this morning that she only drinks low pulp orange juice because if she drinks the stuff with pulp in it she gets a somach ache and feels bad all day. Do any of you know if the pulp in orange juice can do that. I eat fresh oranges and they don't make me sick. Katie
Guest guest
This happens occasionally to me if I drink too much or on an empty stomach. I take a little peptobismo or a charcoal tablet and I feel great within a 30 minutes or less. Those 12 oz cans of frozen concentrate directions for making it up, are for it to only make 48 oz, but I add an extra can of water and make a full 2 qt. pitcher of OJ out of it and then I rarely get this side effect. Guest guest
Hi, I'd avoid the citrus stuff and take Ester C supplements; that's what I have to do. Guest guest
Hi, Drink apple juice, and get your vite C from Ester C. The citrus in the orange juice must be to harsh on your tummy; I can't have it either. Guest guest
I've read about and experienced the " sour stomach " from orange juice and apple juice. It's caused by the acidity, not the pulp, in the juice. You experience this after consuming the juice in large quantities on a regular basis. I used to drink apple juice and orange juice instead of water. I started watering down the juices, but it didn't help. The low-acid orange and apple juices were better but eventually, I got that " sour stomach " again. I only have them maybe(!) once a month now. If the raw fruits don't affect you, stick to them. I saw Dr. Oz on Oprah last week, and he was very enthusiastic about the " Evolutionary Diet " , which is basically just 11 pounds of whole raw nuts, fruits and vegetables per day. They have the most medical benefit to us, because it's how our bodies were meant to consume food. Dr. Gillian McKeith (UK) is also an enthusiast of this diet. Cheers! Guest guest
Katie I do know that people who are pitta dosha in Ayurveda have too much fire and thus should not have " firery " foods like OJ and especially tomatoes. I am puzzled by the pulp connection. Guest guest
I used to have severe acid reflux. Many foods would trigger it, but especially acid foods like vinegar, tomatoes, and OJ. It was also triggered by fats (especially cheese) and chocolate. Even milk was a problem. It sometimes felt like every single thing I put in my mouth caused it. I took lots of different products for it, including prescription medications. Then in January I started following Eat to Live, which is basically a vegan whole-foods program. I haven't had reflux since. In fact, I can't even remember how awful it was way back when. It feels so good to say that! :-) Sharon Guru K wrote: > Katie > > I do know that people who are pitta dosha in Ayurveda have too much > fire and thus should not have " firery " foods like OJ and especially > tomatoes. Guest guest
I am not saying those foods are bad because they should be fine for kapha and vata doshas.
