Guest guest
Hi Bron, You're right. My Aussie husband and son are happy little vegemites, but it reminds me of axle grease, lol. Guest guest
I prefer marmite - vegemite tastes a bit too sweet for me. We were practically weaned on marmite so I guess the taste for it must be bred into you. Christie
Guest guest
An Aussie friend of mine told me the same thing. Axle grease! But concidening that I hate peanut butter, I might like it. LOL I got some sunflower seed butter a few days ago, thinking I may like that, but I can't eat it, either. I think it is that nasty, sticky, thick, slimy consistency that does me in. I will feed the sun butter to my peanut butter loving hubby and he will not know the difference. Katie Barbara <kangabp wrote: Hi Bron, You're right. Adds a rich full bodied taste to so many rice and bean dishes too and fabulous for a TVP and nut mushroom and rice loaf. Try a bit in a thinner tomato sauce as a pour on finishing sauce for many rice and bean dishes or over sauteed vegetables. Guest guest
Hi, Is Vegemite sold in the grocery stores here in the States, or health food/nutrition centers? I use something called Vegex. I think it is about the same thing. It is so good. And adds extra flavor to any vegetarian thing I make from scratch. Yummy!!! I usually purchase the Vegex at our local Adventist Book Center. But they have moved a bit further away. It isn't a lot of miles, but takes more time to get there. Guest guest
Karla, The Savorex is more like Vegemite and you can also find it at the Adventist Book Center. I like it better than the Vegex, for spreading on things. I basically only use the Vegex for making gravy with. It is has very intense flavor. I use Savorex for many other things. Have you tried it? Guest guest
Is vegex a light tan powder in a blue cilindrical container? about the size of a coffee can? It is not the same if so. Vegemite is a very dark paste and does look like axle grease. I do not think it tastes like axle grease, but then again, I am not a regular consumer of this product (axle grease I mean LOL) , " karfranw " <karfranw wrote: > > Hi, > Is Vegemite sold in the grocery stores here in the States, or health food/nutrition centers? Guest guest
www.vegemite.com.au As a kid I would eat it off of a spoon Even now on my bread I like to know it is there...it has to be a few centimetres thick lol Salty, it is. Yummy, it is. But you either love it or hate it. Tracey from Brisbane AllAboutAustralia
Guest guest
Hi Katie, Have you tried cashew nut butter which is very smooth or macadamia nut butter. I find them very tasty and versatile. Cheers, Barb
Guest guest
No, Vegex isn't a powder. It is also a paste, and is very thick. I just love the stuff. Not sure if the rest of my family share my sentiments or not. I found a recipe online that I made. It isn't Vegex or vegemite. But thought I would try it. I wanted to try the vegemite to see how it tastes. I have heard it is so good. Guest guest
Yes I have used Savorex in the past. For some reason, I really like these yeasty things. They add another facet of flavor to soups, gravies, and sauces. I am always open to try new things. I have looked all over the stores here, for marmite and vegemite and can't find either one. Of course, I haven't looked at Wild Oats, or any of the nutrition centers. Karla

Guest guest
Hi Katie, I love macadamia nut butter; it goes well with eggs on toast, with sprouts, rice cakes; I still have not discovered it all. I'm allergic to everything dairy, except eggs, so I find the nut butters a great alternative. There is also almond nut butter, and couple others, but I just can't remember them at the moment. Macadamia has a lot of fat, but it's a good fat, and you don't need much on your bread or whatever. I wonder if there's a macadamia cookbook out there, hm? It's not meant to be spread on like peanut butter :] cheers Susan Happy little vegemite* * from an early vegemite ad campaign but now part of the australian language.
