Guest guest
If you're making Asian foods do you have an online source for hard to find supplies in the U.S.A.? I found several on Ebay but I don't want to pay shipping from Tokyo Japan. I don't know of any Asian markets closeby either. Thanks, Rhoda Rhoda Jayne
Guest guest
Sorry I missed the previous posts, is there such a thing as a rice ball maker? I make mine with my hands so they are round not triangular. Anything that would make it easier would sure be nice! Stephanie Fussy? Opinionated? Impossible to please? Perfect. Guest guest
http://houserice.stores..net/susbalmol.html Here is one that I found yesterday while googling. If you do a google of " Bento " you will find tons of lunch box sites with photos. Bento is a lunch box from Japan. I looked it up on Ebay & found about 450 auctions & stores that sell the boxes & accessories for making lunches. They had some really cute stuff for kids. The veganlunchbox.com lady packed her son's lunch in a box from laptoplunches.com which is very similar. I'd like one of those if I knew that I would actually use it every day! Guest guest
Stephanie, Do you have a certain method or recipe for making rice balls? Rice has always been one of my most favorite foods & I think that would pack well for a lunch. What type of rice do you use? Would brown rice work do you think? thanks, Rhoda On 10/7/07, Stephanie Scott <stargazerlily72 wrote: > > WOW! Thanks so much for the link! I'll be ordering some in all the > shapes. Guest guest
This is one I came up with. It is not " traditional " but it's very good, this is the one I usually make. We usually have it with ponzu sauce. I believe brown rice would work if you cooked it long enough to be sticky. That's the only real secret is that the rice has to be sticky. I keep meaning to try the brown but still haven't. I make mine by hand so they tend to be a bit big (I think). Mine are about baseball size. I can't wait to get the molds to see if I can get smaller ones to come out. They do make a great lunch, everything is right there in one convienient " package " and these taste good cold too. So, here's my recipe... Enjoy, Stephanie Stephanie's Rice Ball's 2 cups sushi rice (dry) 1 pkg frozen veggie blend of Broccoli Florets, Cauliflower and Carrots Directions: *Prepare rice according to package (including the rinsing and soaking) set aside * Lightly steam veggies (so they remain slightly crisp) *Rinse under cool water until cool enough to put into food processor *Chop veggies to fine consistency but not mush *When rice has cooled enough to handle, wet hands (rice is VERY sticky) *Get a handful of rice in one hand, make an indentation in center *Place a spoonful of veggies in center *Cover with another handful of rice and shape into ball (or any other shape you wish) * Serve with your favorite sauce NOTE: This led to another recipe, I had alot of leftover veggies that were already chopped. I added vegenaise to make a " veggie salad " ...DELICIOUS in a pita pocket!!! Or you could throw it all in the blender and make a veggie spread for crackers. Catch up on fall's hot new shows on TV. Guest guest
Stephanie, I went to WalMart this afternoon & found medium grain, long grain, jasmine & botan (sp). I think it was botan & it was with the oriental food section. I'll go back this week & pick some up. I've always eaten long grain rice so I can't imagine being able to pick up a ball of rice & eat it,lol! I think I'll order my molds tonight. There's a blog called Bento TV & the lady has archives of all her episodes. I might have to order some egg molds too. She also has an ebay store where she sells Bento boxes & molds. I saw another site that molded rice into cubes. The cube maker was from Japan & it looked a Pez dispenser! Rhoda On 10/8/07, Stephanie Scott <stargazerlily72 wrote: > > This is one I came up with.
