Oh, Lex, please don't apologize for " all the questions " ! Goodness, girl, how

do you think we all learn unless we ask questions? (Was that redundant or

what? LOL)

 

The way I reheat it is to just put it in the nuker and nuke it X minutes,

depending on how many servings I'm heating up. If it's one at a time, I nuke

it 1 minute and 30 seconds. Depends on how hot your microwave is, I reckon;

ours gets pretty hot pretty quick.

 

Or, if you're adding other vegies to the rice, you can either nuke it or

cook it on the stove in a pot. Your choice!

Hi Bonnie!

 

Here are the definitions I know:

 

Vegan: No Meat, No Dairy, No Animal Products of by-products (leather,

honey, refined white stuff, some wines - due to the filters used).

 

Vegetarian:

 

Lacto/Ovo - Vegetarian who consumes milk, cheeses and eggs

Lacto - Vegetarian who consumes milk and cheeses, but no eggs

Ovo - Vegetarian who consumes eggs, but no dairy

 

Hindu Veg: Lacto-Vegetarian who also excludes onions, garlic, mushrooms,

and all intoxicants.

 

As for your question about fish - fish is an animal, and so while there

is a name for what you speak (pesce-vegetarian), by definition, this is

not truly a vegetarian.

 

Then there's Macrobiotic (from Wikipedia):

Followers of macrobiotics believe that food, and food quality, affects

our lives more than is commonly thought. It is thought to affect our

health, well being and happiness. They claim it is better to choose food

that is less processed, more natural, and use more traditional methods

of cooking for family, friends, and oneself.

Another question

 

Can anyone recommend some good healthy vegetarian diet and cookbooks,

that would be appropriate for Diabetics. AND new to vegetarian

eating. I don't even know what the different vegetarian types are. I

would sure appreciate some imput.

Ok folks... here's another stupid question ... what in the heck is Risotto ,

Couscous and Quinoa ( if I'm not mistaken pronounced keen-wah)? Where do you

find this stuff and what does it taste like? The only grocery I shop at is the

stupid wal mart supercenter here, and I've never seen any of that stuff there

before... I know what Barley is , and I love it... is it similar to those above?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but growing up if it wasn't rice or some form of

pasta ( either bowties, macaroni, or spaghetti) we didn't have it. Now I'm

really, really, ...really bored with what we're eating ...it just seems like the

same ol' same ol' and boring. So I'm just looking for some new idea and meals...

but nothing that requires stuff like brandy or white wine, as we can't afford

any of that stuff.

No question is stupid when you learn from it. Risotto is a rice that is cooked

slowly with extra liquid so that it starch makes a pasty gooey texture. It will

have herbs and usually small vegetable bits in it. I am not discribing it well,

but it is can be very good or pretty bad, depending on what you put into it.

no question is stupid! it is how we learn!

 

risotto is a fabulous Italian rice dish using arborio (short grain) rice:

couscous is a quick cooking wheat product which is wonderful for soaking up

stews; it is quick & easy to prepare:

quinoa is an ancient Aztec grain which is high in protein, quick cooking,

I can get all 3 at my local grocery store.
