Guest guest
I use to use a lot of soy substitutes when I changed our diet to a vegetarian one. I have a teenage son so he wasn't too adventurous about trying too many strange things - it took 2 years to get him to try tofu! But you can use the soy crumbles and make just about anything that you did with ground beef - and now that they have the steak and chicken soy strips (Morningstar Farm), we can have all kinds of things. And even now, after more than 3 years, he'll get confused and forget that it isn't meat. It seemed to make it easier to switch for him when he could still have tacos that felt like the meat tacos he was used to eating. Now we only have them about once a month, and hardly ever use any substitute in pasta these days. Try finding different substitutes to use in your favorite recipes - sometimes you have a slightly different texture but when you can still eat old favorites, it makes it easier. And over time you can use less of the soy subs and add different veggie mixes into things and you'll enjoy it a lot. As far as sweets go, I find that fresh or frozen fruit is usually as satisfying as baked goods. But sometimes you just have to splurge and say what the heck, you know? Good luck! Guest guest
Oh there is so much more to the vegetarian life than peanut butter and broccoli! Consider for a minute how many kinds of meat are eaten versus the incredible numbers of vegetables, grains, seeds and nuts. Go to your public library and check out some vegetarian cookbooks and then start exploring and exposing your palate to new tastes and textures. If you are having problems beating the meat addiction, there are a number of vegetarian substitutes easily available in most groceries. Not to mention the incredible assets you have found in this group. Enjoy!
