Guest guest
Speaking of extinction which brings to mind global warming, Oprah did a program on it yesterday. She had a scientist on and he made a point about something that is very simple for everyone to do that can make a big impact on reducing global warming. Something small but simple. Replace incadecent bulbs with compact fluorescent! What most folks don't know, at least in the U.S. and probably in most of the world, is most electricity is producted by coal. And, in the U.S. if every household replaced just FIVE of the current light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs it would save as much energy as taking EIGHT MILLION cars off the roads! Hmmm, now that wouldn't be hard and it wouldn't even be painful. I know, cause we did it and, in fact, we replaced ALL light bulbs 5 years ago. We got a second bonus! Our P.G. & E. bill went down to almost nothing! And, in fact, even with a pump at the current house it is less than $50 a month and that includes running an electric dryer, a freezer, a fish tank, three computers, televisions and so forth and so on. Lights run a lot of power! Guest guest
Unfortunately we cannot use those bulbs - they interfere with our television signals (don't ask me why or how). We bought three, at about £7 each, and it was just a waste because of their effect. However, we do lots of other things to help. Guest guest
apparantly they create an electro-magnetic field which can disrupt weak television and AM radio signals.. the new generation has a damper which negates this... heartwerk <jo.heartwork Oct 28, 2005 10:48 AM Re: extinction is forever Unfortunately we cannot use those bulbs - they interfere with our television signals (don't ask me why or how). Guest guest
That explains it then - we live in a valley and need a booster in the attic to receive terrestrial tv. It was two years ago we tried, so I'll give it a little longer and see if the newer sort are around here.
