well..since i went to the SF GreenFest last weekend, thought i'd blather on it

a tad..

yeah..i'm allowed to be boring....

anyways

it was immensely packed this year..it normally is, but, it seemed even more so

this year

it takes place in the SF Concourse, which holds something like 10,000 ppl..and i

swear, it felt like 3 times that amount...

the speakers seemed a bit lacking this year...instead of having them in the back

of the auditorium, they actually had to move them outside to a big tent in the

parking lot!

i only listened to Jim Hightower this year..sittin in one place fer too long

drives me batty anyways...most of the other speakers just didn't seem t ohave

the caliber of past years

lottsa booths and exhibits...

and of course, lotsa vegan food up on the mezzanine.....

tho..one booth was selling something with honey in it as vegan..tsk tsk...

anyways..was there all day, and had a great time

cheers

Hi Fraggle

That sounds good. At least you enjoyed the stalls.

Our next vegan outing is the Christmas Without Cruelty fair in London

in a few weeks - more nice food :-)

I went to the Green Fest in DC this year, and I loved it! I've never been to one before, but it was nice to see so many like-minded open-minded people gathered in one place! I have to admit though, my biggest reason for going was the food! There were some great vendors, and I was more than happy to pay an increased price for that food than say, McDonalds. Anyway, just had to give my 2 cents, I think I'm going to go every year now, at least if they continue to have it in DC!

I think the Christmas without cruelty is the only one left now. Mentioning

brewfests brought back memories of my brother. He lived in Germany for

about 6 years, and ~loved~ the Oktoberfest beer festivals.

Hi Katherine

We find the various vegan festivals good fun - especially the food. It's also good to look at all the clothing and shoes, and toiletries.

Hi Fraggle,

I went to the vegetarian festival in my town last sunday.

It was real swell.

There was loads of foods of all types. All free.

Well the entrance was five dollars but, it went directly to an

animal rescue group.

There was also a live band.

It was a big deal for us, because this isn't a vegetarian frienldy

town and it felt great to see all those people like minded.

I was amused at the parking lot cars. The bumper stickers, I have

never seen so many in one place for instance...

Meat is murder

Save the Manatee

Vegan

greenpeace

Kerry/Edwards

etc, etc,

have fun next time!!!! i agree, they are a blast...

tho..the crowd around the food pavilions makes ya feel like you need

to bring yer own air..its so dang cramped...worse then disneyland i swear

I went to one of them recently, eithre disneland or disneyworld, which

ever one is near me.. We got tickets from a relative for his seventh

birthday.

There were five parks, each of them enormous...a city within itself.

the one we went to is the one with the cinderellas castle in it.

We parked our car... in an enormouse parking lot

then we got in a very very long train..

then inside of the park, we rode on trains to get from one place to the

other.

My sons enjoyed it, but as an adult my eyes are different and did not

see things they way they did.

There was a White (stork like) bird near a lake inside the park.

This bird was clearly in pain, as it had fishing equipment around its

leg.

We complained to several people and they said they had nothing to do

with it.

Then we went into the main office, where there were some Asian women

who did not speak a lot of english..

After listening to our complain she said.. " no worry, bird no harm

you " " bird no harm children "

she could not possible comprehend that someone just cared about a

bird. I have nothing against asian, but really they did not help me.

The bird was left there.

Needles to say there were no vegetarian restaurants.. we found as

mexican restaruant and we just ordered bean burritos.

I am not interested in going back.. but of course I am not a kid, they

had a different opinion.

Hi Anouk,

Thats a sad story about the bird. I couldnt have left it like that, I would have had to have done something myself if no-one else would.

Hope it didnt spoil the erst of your trip.

I have thought about if I had enough money would I take my kids to Disneyland, and although I would like them to enjoy their childhood and not grow up too fast, I`m not sure that I would want to take them there.

I saw a bumper sticker recently that we loved, especially my DH, it said Walmart Sucks. Hi peter,

you can order a bunch of informative information, for e.g. intro to

vegetariansim,

pamplets, leaflets etc. From peta or other societies.

leave them lying around, or distribute them in a street corner, post

them on walls etc. Drop them from a plane!!

the thing is to get the word out on Veganism. You would be surprised

at how many people are interested in change.

a lot of people are just not informed.

a lot of people do not really want to be cruel to animals.

I will go to Wales someday and I will help you and my kids together

and your kids or whoever else wants to join us and we

will set up a table. I might need a loudspeaker hehe :) but I can

talk till my voice get hoarse..

We can do it.. spread the word.. save animals.. one person at a time.

Good conquers evil!

No to speciesim!

Hi Anouk,

I have always been one for subversive information. My favourite trick was to leave leaflets in my libraray books when I returned them so that the next person borrowing them had a surprise. I also take leaflets to work and "leave them lying around" in the rest areas.I like passive resistance.

What I don`t like is people handing stuff out on the streets and hastling people. In the middle of Cardiff`s main street there are on average 20 people every day trying to do surveys, selling the big issue, trying to sell insurance, even trying to get women signed up to hairdressers! it gets you down when you have to keep constantly apologising to get from one end of a street to another. Spoils your lunch!

Theres always a welcome in Wales, ask Jo!

Hi peter,

we were torn too, the lake was not accesible to people, we could just

see him..

and we had to take a boat back to our car..

I did called disney the next day and someone told me that they would

look into it...

if you ever do come to florida.. there are still some beautiful

natural parks that we go to with kinda like forest that are really

peaceful and almost always see all kinds of wildlife..

I try not to disturb..

aligators, pelican.. all kinds of parrrots running wild, lizards..

turtles, rabbits, panthers, snakes... etc.

I heard on the radio this morning " do not let your cats out "

there are reports of Cat eating Lizards.. on the loose..

Maybe one day when the funds allow, I will go across the pond, who knows? Sounds nice.

disneyworld

disneyland is on this coast

it was prolly an egret...unfortunately its extremely common for water birds of

any stripe to get tangled up in nets and fishing lines...

and, as for vegan fare..its always been tough to find such fare at amusement

parks, but i have some friends who went a few years ago, and said it was

possible t ofind veggiefood at disneyworld now..

since the whole epcot center thing and other places emphasizes cultures of the

world, they bring in chefs from all over, and a few places cater to the veggie

corwd

some place called cosmic rays,and

tony's something other supposedly had a fantastic eggplant and portobello panini

sandwich...

and..some other place there called..umm..garden grill i think...something like

that..anyways..they have several vegetarian items on the menu, and will make

vegan options if you call em in advance...

of course..this is all second hand..i haven't been to disneyworld since like

1975 and it wasn't halfway finished yet

but..if you ever decide to go again...at least ya can look around now !!!

cheers

fraggle

Peter's Rabbit had a garden?!

Well no wonder he posted so many times about him. I'd be proud too!
