Guest guest
Being a teacher, I am off today. There is a channel here called “Court TV”. They show court cases in progress sometimes. Right now they are giving closing arguments on a case involving 2 Raw Vegan Parents. They are on trial for “starving” their 6 month old daughter by just giving her these things to eat: Wheat grass, coconut water and almond milk. Their other children are doing fine on the Raw Vegan Diet. The 6 month old baby is dead. The name of this couple is Andressohn, in case anyone is interested in looking it up. It is 23NOV, 4:10PM on the East Coast and the trial is in progress as I type this. Personally, I do not know what to think. The defense argues that the diet did not kill the baby – it was a rare birth defect. They do not name what that birth defect might be. They are trying to get these two parents on “culpable negligence” , which I think means that they did not set out to kill their baby; they were doing what they thought was in the baby’s best interest, HOWEVER, they should have known what they were doing was wrong. (This is not my belief, I am just relaying what the prosecutor was arguing.) Good Luck. I’m stumped. Cynthia
Guest guest
What a sad story Have they said if she was being breastfed as well? If she was, then it would definitely not have been diet as breastfeeding would be more than enough at that age and anything else would have been additional rather than vital. Guest guest
No one mentioned the breastfeeding. The whole focus seems to be on the Raw Vegan thing. Finally, I heard the Defense name what he thought the birth defect was – I am sorry I did not get the whole thing – Partial something St. George something Syndrome. Perhaps a medical list member can figure it out. It seemed to have physical characteristics common only to this disorder. Guest guest
Shame that the focus was on something that is completely irrelevant if mom was breastfeeding. Yet typical of both court cases and the media: if there is a difference that people don't understand, they will focus on that rather than look at the situation and what is relevant information.
