Guest guest
There is quite a lot of talk about send a cow type schemes as xmas approaches. I am trying to suggest send a tree instead (Via Tree Aid) or support the abolition of third world debt. Has anyone else been concerned by this recently? Guest guest
I haven't heard about the 'send a cow' at all. Maybe we have that 'pleasure' to come! Guest guest
Hi I'm in England and had not heard of it. I've just been to the website and emailed them. Have you heard of Vegfam? It might be worth recommending that to people. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for getting back to me on this. It has actually been preying on my mind over the last week or so. Last Thursday I was at work and my boss who is a vegetarian told me he had been concerned by colleagues who were raising money to " send a cow " . Then the same day I logged on to another I am on FrugalGeniusUK to fin a request for info on seend a cow schemes. I posted a reply about why I thought it was wrong and about Tree Aid as an alternative. I recieved a message back asking me if I did not think it curious that a large charity like Oxfam would be doing it if it was wrong. Anyway I wanted to vent here and see what others thought. Sometimes I think I was born on the wrong planet. Should have been on Planet Vega! , " heartwerk " <jo.heartwork@g...> wrote: > > Hi > > I'm in England and had not heard of it. 'Cos large charities would obviously never do anything wrong, would they???? Sorry - I just find that response to show such blind ignorance that it almost doesn't warrant a response!!!! Guest guest
Hi, Yes, forgot to say I have heard of Vegfam and have sent them some money this year. However on the other group there have been some thanks for the links I posted about Animal Aid's criticism of send a cow and for the Tree Aid link I posted, and the discussion has turned to a more mature look at causes of third wold poverty so I will let it rest now. , " herbvalerian " <herbvalerian> wrote: > > Hi, > Thanks for getting back to me on this. Guest guest
I'm afraid we all have the same problems. Everytime someone asks me to support a charity, which seems to be about twice a week I have to look it up on the internet, emal the charity and ask questions - and usually, then tell the people why I won't support it. Dr Hadwen sell ladybird brooch pins in support of alternative breast cancer research, which is a good idea, because the breast cancer research charity is forever being supported at work. At least you can tell them there are alternatives. Jo - " herbvalerian " <herbvalerian Monday, November 28, 2005 3:38 PM Re: Send a cow type schemes > Hi, > Thanks for getting back to me on this. Guest guest
That's good news indeed. At least you have made some people think - well done.
