Guest guest
I know for sure that they don't use the bone char in Sucanat. I don't have any organic regular sugar, but I have Organic Dark Brown Sugar by Wholesome and it definitely doesn't use bone char. My guess is that Organic white sugar, if there is such a thing, doesn't either. But certainly something to be careful about. I use Organic Agave Nectar. linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Susan Do you think they use it in organic sugar and/ororganic Sucanat? I use those, but mostly I like maplesyrup. Susan
Guest guest
I'll have to try the Agave. I tried brown rice syrup and didn't really care for it. I do like organic maple syrup, though. It has some calcium in it. Susan --- linda <lindai81 wrote: > I know for sure that they don't use the bone char in > Sucanat. Guest guest
Thick concentrated apple juice and pear juice makes a good sweetener in cooking. Pure pinapple juice can be used as a glaze when roasting stuf in the oven. Date syrup is also luscious, and for things where colour does not matter malt extract or molasses works quite well. I experimented with a few things like these when I read about sugar not being vegan, but apparently sugar is vegan here in UK. However I persisted with the alternatives as they are more nutritious and environmentally friendly. , Susan <oceanfest_2000> wrote: > > I'll have to try the Agave. Guest guest
I am out on the west coast and organic maple sugar is kind of pricey so I can only justify using it in small amounts. The organic Agave Nectar works for me. I have used the brown rice syrup too, but it wasn't as good as I would have liked. linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Susan Friday, December 02, 2005 9:36 AM Re: Organic sugar/Susan I'll have to try the Agave. Guest guest
I so rarely use a recipe and then only as a suggestion I have never been able to figure out how to use the juices...the amount and then if the recipe calls for a solid form of sweetener afraid that the use of a more liquid sweetener will foul up the dish. I have also gone with the other things I mentioned as I thought I would end up with an additional flavor in the dish that I didn't expect. So guess it is just because I don't know how to use the juices for sweetener. Never tried date syrup...does it have a flavor that you can compare it too? Also, except for beans I haven't used molasses either since it is so strong and I would have thought it would stand out too much in the dish. How do you use these things yourself? I was just reading about sugar being a disaster for the environment, but I buy organic and am under the impression that organic isn't. I don't know for sure...do you? linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - herbvalerian Thick concentrated apple juice and pear juice makes a good sweetener in cooking. Guest guest
See if your library can get you Naturally Sweet Desserts by Marcea Webber. I like that one. Takes care of dessert, anyway. Additionally, I just found this site; it gives equivalents: http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/food/317 Susan --- linda <lindai81 wrote: > I so rarely use a recipe and then only as a > suggestion I have never been able to figure out how > to use the juices...the amount and then if the > recipe calls for a solid form of sweetener afraid > that the use of a more liquid sweetener will foul up > the dish.
