Guest guest
I light bulb went off today! Don't know if I can handle it! Ha! I was thinking about a post someone made about gift giving/receiving as a vegan. I called all my relatives and told them that I had a suggestion for any gift giving they may want to send my way in the future; I suggested the option of making a donation in my name to one of several charities I support. I don't know why I had to become vegan to think of this one! It is ecologically sound (no packaging, energy use, etc.) the giver doesn't have to think about whether a gift is vegan or supports a company that is not animal friendly (not that I would really expect them to--afterall, it's hard enough for me and I WANT to be vegan), and it helps people/animals live better lives. I'm passing this suggestion along in case there is someone else out there like me, who hadn't thought of this option before. All my family was understanding except one daughter didn't get it, but I think she will come around. My daughter-in-law laughed and said " whatever makes you happy! " I didn't demand it, I just left it as an option. We give small birthday gifts at work as well, so I'm thinking I will mention it to the people I work with as well. Susan ________ DSL – Something to write home about. Just $16.99/mo. or less. dsl.
Guest guest
Hi Susan That is very generous of you - but the people concerned want to give 'you' a gift, not a gift in your name. It was suggested at worked by one person that instead of giving each other cards we donate the money to charity. Well considering we all buy cheapt cards for each other there wouldn't be much for charity anyway - and most of us donate to charities anyway. Also, if we did agree to that the department as a whole would probably choose something like Cancer research or the Heart Foundation - and I wouldn't have my money going to them. I told everyone I like receiving cards, and they all agreed. Jo - " Susan " <oceanfest_2000 Saturday, December 03, 2005 7:41 PM Re: Vegan gift giving/receiving > I light bulb went off today! Guest guest
Yes, you're right . . . some people do have a need to give a gift directly; that's why I made it a suggestion and left it open (and told them my charities, which may not be their charities). When we give birthday gifts at work they are generally small and definitely optional, some give cards. But I'm going to search for cards to buy from one of my charities to give at Christmas next year (too late this year, I think). Gifting is a motion of the heart and people should feel free to express it any way they wish--if they wish to at all. However, they won't know what I would like unless I express it as an option--then it's up to them. One daughter (in-law) said yes and another daughter said no and that's fine. That's what makes the world go 'round--everybody is different. I love them both to pieces. --- jo <jo.heartwork wrote: > Hi Susan > > That is very generous of you - but the people > concerned want to give 'you' a > gift, not a gift in your name. Guest guest
It is good to let people know what options they have - and it has suited one of your daughters.
