Wot you askin Jo? I do it because it seems to be the most logical thing to do, for the sake of our children and our childrens children to save resources and stop rubbish dumps taking up more and more space, pollutin the planet more and more. Hi Peter

I agree with you - I do it in the hopes that there might be a decent

world for my children and theirs etc.

Some people on here don't want children, and I wondered what the range

of reasons included?

Hi Jo

Well, maybe preaching to the converted here, but for me it is a lot to do with landfill space. From the city I live in every day 10,000 tonnes of waste are taken to land fill. Looking at the amount I recycle, compared to the amount I put in the bin, I reckon that something like 95% of that could be recycled, so... there's a waste of something like 9,500 tonnes of usable material every day in one city alone, and theres a huge amount of land being polluted. Multiply that by all the cities in the "civilised" world, and I'm amazed that we have any room left to bury the rubbish!

almost an odd question...like askin me " why do you breathe? "

just cuz i'm not into havin kids, doesn't mean i'm the only bugger on this lil

its not just recycling...its reducing, reusing, making do, using less, and

recycling

there are over 6 billion humans on this lil blue marble in space...

there's only so much to go around

it is beyond crass to think of only meself

there are a finite amount of resources..even renewables, nothing lasts forever

technically..but many things aren't renewable..once you use up all the oil,

iron, tin, bauxite, water, etc and so on, its not like a bunch is just gonna

the use of resources without thought to how its created, the wastes produced

while its created, the pollution from mines, and what happens after its created

is just plain criminal...

its not just the amount of " trash " or rubbish produced, the land fills that are

piling higher then the towers of babel..

its also all the wastes produced while manufacturing something...its all the

how many trees would die if that bit of paper is just tossed out ? wot critters

how much energy does it take to cut down that tree, transport it, pulp it,

what happens to everything that lived where that tree was? the soil? the carbon

released?

what happens to that can tossed out on the side of the road?

I was watching an old Dr Who the other day, which was set about 3000 years

in the future... even back in 1968, someone was giving some thought to

this... the world it was set in was in a rather desperate state as it had

almost run out of trees - humans were getting more and more desperate to

produce all the things that trees used to produce, and were just producing

more pollution in the process...

Hi Fraggle

It was the personal reason I was interested in. For you it is other people

too.

I was interested because there seems to be a fair amount of dislike of

non-vegans (not particularly from you), and it will be these people we are

doing out best to save the world for. Does this matter to the average

vegan, or have they not thought about it in that way. What do you reckon???

I know we can't 'save' the world - especially with so few people caring

about what goes on - that's what got me wondering on the subject. Who will

benefit from our actions, if not enough people are doing it, and even if we

do it for animals and not people, will we be enough to make it possible for

them to be unaffected by the rest of the worl'ds human population?

depends on who you mean by " we "

personally..if you haven't noticed, i'm pretty much convinced its all pretty

futile...

a huge global calamity is in the offing.....

doesn't mean i, or we, shouldn't keep trying....

if ya did, then why bother doing anything?

even if *we* are saving the world for *them*(they? those?), its not like we are

doing it for a pat on the back and a hearty " thanx and job well done " , correct?

so, it really doesn't matter if we are workin on saving it for others, no matter

wot their stripe....

i would guess.....

Many people don't do something until it affects them personally. Many feel that someone else will do it.
