Guest guest
I make this stuffing every year for Thanksgiving - passed down through my family for ages. It's always my most requested recipe after people try it. Certainly not very healthy, but so delicious! Lithuanian Cracker Stuffing 1 large onion 1/2 lb butter (Benecol, if you use it) 1 large box of Saltine Crackers (use Nabisco, not store brand) 7 eggs (or egg substitute, equal to 7 eggs) 1/2 to 1 qt of milk (plain soy milk works well) Salt and Pepper to taste Preheat oven to 350. Saute onion in butter until slightly brown and add 1/2 qt milk to onions in saucepan to warm milk slightly. Coarsely break up crackers in large bowl, add eggs, pour cooked onions and butter with milk over crackers, and add more milk if it seems dry, mix just a little, add salt and pepper to taste and put into casserole bowl. Line casserole with aluminum foil and sprayed with Pam so stuffing doesn't stick. Bake at 350 for around 1 hour with foil covered over top then turn back foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until brown. It should look golden brown when done. Enjoy! Becky O. Guest guest
Hi Eva - I'm not sure why we always called it " Lithuanian " to be honest. My Grandmother was born there, but moved to Pennsylvania as a little girl. Maybe Saltine Cracker Stuffing would be a better name. All the best, Becky Re: Lithuanian Cracker Stuffing Posted by: " Eva Blodgett " evablodgett buzgutis Mon Nov 19, 2007 7:09 am (PST) Hi, I was born and raised in Lithuania - have been here for only six years.
