Guest guest
Almost everything has protein in it. Look at this list and great article on Protein in the Vegetarian Diet. http://www.vegparadise.com/protein.html Welcome to our group. You're in for a treat with all the recipes and help that folks here share. Judy - Pondering Cat Monday, November 19, 2007 11:31 AM New to the group I just joined. I would like to develop a vegetarian lifestyle. I just have a couple of problems so I hope to learn how to solve them on this group. I am pre-diabetic and cannot have too many carbs in my diet. Also, I need to have protein for a couple of reasons. One, it helps prevent spiking blood sugars. Two, I had a spinal cord injury and I need the protein to help keep the muscles that I currently have. I know that I can get protein from other sources and that is why I joined the group. I look forward to learning from everyone. ************************* Cat (short for Cathy/Catherine) http://www.flickr.com/photos/pondering_cat/ http://360./pondering_cat (AT) sbcglobal (DOT) net *************************
Guest guest
Excellent article, Judy, thanks for posting it! Yes, there is _such_ a huge misconception about protein. Greens are also full of protein, but many people don't realize this. Sharon wwjd wrote: > Almost everything has protein in it. Guest guest
Thank you Judy, that was a great article. The doctor is concerned about the complete amino proteins and how miscalculating my vegetarian " mix " of food could be detrimental to the current functioning muscles and CNS. I am hoping to learn how to combine my foods to cover my bases so I don't have to worry about those possible miscalculations. wwjd <jtwigg wrote: Almost everything has protein in it. Guest guest
You're very welcome. Did you see the charts that have all charts at the bottom of the article that list tons of foods, in the vegetarian diet, that have protein in them. There are lots more than just beans and dairy. You won't have any problem getting in enough protein, if you just eat a variety of those foods. Whole Grains are a great too. Make sure you go back and maybe print off the list at the bottom below the article. You could also print off the entire article along with the list of foods and their protien content for him to read. I think most doctors nutritional training is so minimal that they probably don't even realize that most all food has protein in it.
