Guest guest
Package of roasted soy nuts, tri-colored pasta, veggie chips, cans of vegetarian chili, jar of good salsa and some baked tortilla chips, pita chips, Annie makes a boxed mac and cheese. If you can browse the isles of a health fods store you will find all kinds of good items. Some of the salad dressings would be nice and encourage her to eat her greens. Donna Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile " pen " <secretpengi Tue, 20 Nov 2007 17:01:10 Need Help Christmas idea Vegetarian Gift Basket A friends daughter has been sick and the doctors say it is her diet. She became a vegetarian but I suspect that she just stopped eating meat and didn't replace it with anything. She lives with her mom so it is difficult to find out what she is eating. My idea was to make a vegetarian gift basket for her father so he can help her eat better when she visits him and maybe learn a thing or two. I need suggestions on what I should add to the basket that a 14 year old girl will eat. I was going to get nutritional yeast, soy nuts, box of almond milk, and maybe a granola mix with a recipe to make herself. What else can I put in the basket that can sit around until she visits? I was going to add power bars but I haven't found one that is very good and also healthy. Thanks in advance. pen

Guest guest
My daughters love the fantastic foods mixes. Sloppy Joes and Tacos are thier favorites. And thay are basically add water and they have a long shelf life. They would probably do well in a basket. Good luck Liudwih On Nov 20, 2007 12:01 PM, pen <secretpengi wrote: > A friends daughter has been sick and the doctors say it is her diet. > She became a vegetarian but I suspect that she just stopped eating > meat and didn't replace it with anything. Guest guest
ARGH! I had a long email finished but not sent and the kitten deleted it, so let's try again. First off, a good vegetarian cookbook such as The Teen's Vegetarian Cookbook (Paperback) by Judy Krizmanic (Author), Matthew Wawiorka (illustrator). Inexpensive rice cooker and several different kinds of rice with recipes from Internet printed out and tucked inside. (sticky rice, brown rice, yellow rice, jasmine rice) Ramen noodle bowls (Nissan) and chopsticks. Assortment of cooking spices and herbs and bottle of Maggi seasoning. (is vegetarian, I use almost daily) Dried minced onion, garlic, etc. Can vegetarian refried beans, taco sauce, flour and corn tortillas. Cans assorted beans with recipes Make some trail mix and put several bags in for munching. The commercial ones I've seen have way too much gunk in them. Assorted bags of dried fruits, nuts, seeds. Gift certificate with recipes, suggested grocery list, menus. Have lots more ideas but have a lesson to teach right now and I need to get my brain focused on abnormal psychology, the history of the WWII era, Algebra I, spoken Japanese and health. Hope this helps! Jeanne in GA pen <secretpengi wrote: A friends daughter has been sick and the doctors say it is her diet. Guest guest
How about a copy of " The Teen's Vegetarian Cookbook " by Judy Krizmanic? Or a binder with your favourite vegetarian recipes? If I remember correctly, my daughter was going through her cooking phase at that age. As for healthy " power bars " , look for Cliff (my favourite is Black Cherry Almond - tastes like Cherry Garcia ice cream) and Luna bars (my favourite is chai tea). They are both organic and contain very few processed ingredients. Or Larabars which are raw (for the most part - the chocolate ones are 85% raw) and vegan. Some tofu packed in a tetra pack (Mori Nu) also has a long shelf life. Good luck! Guest guest
What about an easy to fix meals cookbook. Then he could read through it and stock some of the supplies when he knows she is coming and also know how to fix some meals for them to eat togethter. Also, maybe some type of an informational book about being a vegetarian for her to read and learn about the lifestyle she has chosen to adopt. Unfortunatly, I do not have any book title suggestions for you. I remember when I was in high school and doing alot of sports I stopped eating meat but my mom took care of all the nutritional change needs for me. I hope she gets feeling better, Jenn pen <secretpengi wrote: A friends daughter has been sick and the doctors say it is her diet. Guest guest
Thanks everybody I have some really good ideas now with your help. I'll look for the cookbook. I want to find the things in our regular grocery store because I don't see him ever taking her shopping in the health food store, basically because it is too far from home. I'll request our store order the cliff and Luna bars. Again, Thanks. pen
Guest guest
I forgot to mention three protein bars. The first is the Snickers marathon bar, if she can afford the calories. They are most like a candy bar, to me. Then the Detour and Prilla bars. All are available at Wal Mart and many grocery stores. Hope this helps!
