Set aside. Take a pound of fresh, whole Shiitake mushrooms. Cut the stems from the caps. Place gills facing up. Do not slice mushrooms. (The stems can be dried and used for a soup base or discarded.) Pour the above sauce onto the mushrooms and stir, making sure the gills become saturated with the sauce. In a 350 degrees oven, bake uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes. Or you can barbecue on an open grill. The smoky flavor makes it even better. Serve hot with rice, pasta, couscous, barley or whatever. Unbelievably good. ________ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
shitakes have a distinctive flavor and texture. They are more durable, and to me they taste something like the L word. (lobster) I have even gone as far as to dip them in butter. blessings, Chanda - thelilacflower Vegetarian Group Saturday, December 01, 2007 1:51 PM Re: Killer Shiitakes I'm going to try it with porti's. Guest guest
I checked the price of shitake mushrooms and they are more then I want to pay for them, $8.98 per pound. I will have to see if there is some other mushroom that this will work with that does not cost so much.
