Guest guest
Be aware of carbs! Before I become a veggie, I talked to many people about their lifestyle and weight loss. Some people said that they tended to gain weight because they sought more carbs once they had given up any form of meat. When I first become a veggie, I was in the process of trying to lose weight (and I still am) and I noticed that I would eat more carbs than I did before. Even as a veggie, I have to be conscience of what I consume and as Judy said, portion size. Try to drink at least an 8 ounces glass of water before meals and eat veggies that contain plenty of water to get and keep that full feeling. Of course, I have my ups and downs but I have lost over 35 pounds while being a vegetarian, so anything is possible. Good luck! Guest guest
About " the carbs " thing... there are good carbs and bad carbs. The bad carbs are easy to identify and those are the ones that should be eliminated from your diet. Anything that is white or refined is a bad carb (ie: all sugar, except sucranat - even brown sugar is really white sugar with some molasses in it, white or unbleached flour, anything with high-fructose corn syrup, white rice, any chemical addititive or colourant). If you read labels, you'll find that almost all the groceries in the centre aisle of the store contain these bad carbs. Convenience foods are where you will find the worst offenders. Even some of the meat-substitutes used in vegetarian cooking can be bad carbs Good carbs are unrefined and colourful: veggies, brown rice, whole grains and whole grain flour, honey, steel-cut oats, fruit, beans & lentils, non-fat dairy products (but watch out for gelatin in some brands - it comes from animal hides and bones). And good carbs contain lots of good protein too If you're looking for guidance during your diet, I would suggest you join WeightWatchers. They have an excellent program called Core and it is so good for vegetarians. They also have an excellent vegetarian cookbook available from Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Watchers-Versatile-Vegetarian/dp/0764564072/ref=sr_\ 1_1?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1197122145 & sr=8-1 I'm a lifetime member and every once in a while, I go back just to get some support to get me through Christmas or Thanksgiving, or to catch up on my friends Anyway, I think it's a great program. My doctor is the one who sent me Good luck! Guest guest
This is true, there is no healthy magical way to drop pounds. You need to cut portions, eat healthy and watch calories along with exercise. You didn't put the pounds on overnight so it takes time to lose them. I was happy to see Weight Watchers has a vegetarian cookbook, they have a proven plan and help people lose pounds. Kenia , " A.J. Guest guest
As in any diet .... vegetarian, vegan or meat eaters....get rid of the sugar, and animals fats, then lessen vegetable fats. that is the healthy way to loose weight. When I was vegetarian, before I was vegan, I found that I devoured dairy products. There is not too many I like but I did love Ice cream, real butter, and whole milk yogurt. As well as mozzerella cheese. I don't like much other cheeses. But those dairy products are high in fat and will put or keep those pounds on. Watch them and you will do OK.
