Guest guest
But thanks to the group for some marvelous soup recipes! Wow, that is what I want to eat this time of year. Nope, dont want anything raw, have to make myself eat raw veges or fruit right now. Probably is the way I was raised, dont remember ever eating a raw vegetable as a kid outside of our once weekly salad. But I dont know, in the warm months my kid would happily live on raw fruits and veges but this last week when the bottom dropped out weather wise all she wants to eat is carbs too. I am fighting with her to eat her fruit. But the soups look divine although I know I will have to severely limit the quanity. It is about serving size. And I am trying to keep warm, especially in the house. We are bundling up even inside and drinking tea. I have read that being cold triggers eating. It's worth a shot! Guest guest
I also am SOUP eater---------absolutely love it this time of year--actually all year but this time especially. Like you Kandi I don't want raw---I need hot!!!! We live in North Idaho and it is cold!! I think you are right --Cold triggers my need to eat-----look at the cat!!! He starts putting on weight for the cold season about October---and he looks to GREAT----maybe we are too sensitive to what the society calls " NORMS " ----For the past 20 years I have watched my cravings and know that I am much more hungery in the Fall-- But then in the spring I will automacically stop eating those high calory foods.----I am 5' 5 " and weigh 125 lbs---sometimes 135----in the winter and 115-120 in the summer-------------All Medical EXPERTS will tell you that that is not healthy but I believe that goes back to our orgins AND JUST MAY BE NORMAL IF YOU FIGURE THAT WE ARE LIKE THE ANIMALS and adjust for our surroundings---------This is just a thought and I sincerely do not want to offend anyone but it may explain why we do someof the things we do Now PLEASE send all your Soup recipes. Thanks for listening Nancy from N. Idaho
Guest guest
Hi Nancy: Your theory makes perfect sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do think also that we gain a little more in winter because of a lower activity level. Maybe that is because we expend less energy due to the need to fend off the cold. Sounds like a good excuse for those extra pounds huh? hahahahaha I live in Canada so I hear ya!!!! Soup is great, such a comfort food. peace paula nancy noordam <lucille492003 wrote: I also am SOUP eater---------absolutely love it this time of year--actually all year but this time especially. Guest guest
Nancy, Paula, I think it is normal, and the weight difference that you describe seems like a healthy fluctuation to me. I live in a warmer area, but we have no heating in the house, so even though Los Angeles does not get cold, it is a little cold without heating (50F is cold with no heat!). So we wear sweaters, warm pants, and eat more! and get a little more padding too. Not so much more, maybe a 5 lb fluctuation for me, but oh my, if I lived in Canada I probably would fluctuate 50 lbs! LOL. Of course, if I did live in Canada, I am pretty sure my house would have heating .... Soups are great and we can get all the veggies we need in soups, raw is still nice (salads) but soups are so much more appealing! I will post a couple that I like. cabrita @ Los Angeles , Paula Harris <paulaspeak2 wrote: > > Hi Nancy: > > Your theory makes perfect sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Both macrobiotics and oriental medicine say it is normal for the body to crave warm cooked foods in the winter and to crave foods that produce warmth like buckwheat and root vegetables to keep the body warm and also to begin eating more in winter to again maintain body heat through the winter. In spring the body wants to be lighter and looks for cooling foods like raw foods and fruits to keep the body cool during the summer months. , nancy noordam <lucille492003 wrote: > I think you are right --Cold triggers my need to eat-----look at the cat!!!
