Just for me I keep packages of tofu in the freezer.

canned beans of all sorts...really like garbanzo and black.

peanut butter...just in case

canned bamboo shoots

rice...instant, don't have a rice cooker yet

sunflower seeds

flax seeds

spicy peanut sauce

bread

These are pretty much the main for me. I make lots of other foods but these

are quick and I hate to cook really.

This is a very useful question (since I need to supply a little

pantry soon)

My pantry essentials:

Rice: brown rice, red rice (cargo or buthanese), purple or black

rice

Flours: Whole wheat, better for bread, rye, chickpea (besan),

gluten.

Cereals/grains (other than rice): Oatmeal, oat groats, barley,

quinoa, buckwheat groats. If I need oat flour I grind up some oat

meal. Pasta (angel hair, fettuccini, bow ties, tortellini.

Sweteners: Brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, cane syrup, dates.

Pulses: red lentils, brown lentils (the regular ones) the little

green French ones. Black beans, red beans, pinto beans, white beans

(navy, great northern or canelini), chickpeas, black eye peas,

flageolet beans (yum!). I keep beans in dried form, but I also like

to keep some cans for smaller faster meals. I never met a bean I

did not like.

Seeds and nuts: sesame seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts,

pine nuts, flax seeds, cashews, pistachios. I actually keep these

in the freezer rather than the pantry.

Oils: Olive (pure) and extra virgin cold press low acidity olive

oil (for salads), dark sesame oil, walnut oil. I also have some

generic vegetable oil for deep frying, which I don't do very often.

Potatoes, onions, garlic, ginger (I keep ginger in the fridge)

Spices: lots but primarily cumin seeds, coriander seeds, celery

seeds, peppercorns (white, black and pink), cardamom, mustard seeds,

fenugreek seeds. Also some dried herbs that I dry myself or buy if

I cannot get them to grow (thyme for example). Also some spice

blends like Tony Sacharaze, and lemon pepper. Also, las but not

least, ass sorts of dried peppers, anchos, mulatos, California,

chipotles, arbol and cascabel. And cayenne and hot pepper flakes.

Coffee and teas, wine.

we never know when another Earthquake will hit again, we do not want

to be taken unawares ever again, TKU for spreading great ideas. Judy, I

added some more of what we save at home too.

22. Maple Syrup (because someone in the family is allergic to honey)

23. Bee Honey

24. Salt

25. Bottled Purified Water (5gal./person/day, recommended by the

Red Cross)

26. Olive Oil

27. Dried and Fresh Herbs

28. Powder Soy Milk

Marilyn,

You can! I didn't stock my pantry all at once. When tomatoes are on

sale, buy a couple extra cans. If white rice is on sale, buy extra.

Just don't buy too much extra of whole grains as they don't last as

long. I HATE to buy anything that is not on sale so I stock up on

things when they are reduced in price. That way I only have to

replace things as I run out.

I do that when I can now, but I am on Social Security, and we have lost 40%

of our buying power since 2000. Also, the president wants to give each

single taxpayer $800 and each family $1,600, but nothing has been said of

the Social Security people. It is a major lack of money here.
