Guest guest
I used to cook big meals for my family and freeze some for another day but now I have only the freezer on my fridge. My slowcooker ism1 qt and so is my pressure cooker. Even with that I still have leftovers and I use them. This is the most helpful group I've ever belonged to. Guest guest
You can use pasta sauce for spaghetti one night and the next night you can make a hot sauteed onion, pepper and veg sausage sandwich with pasta sauce. I'm very good at using leftovers to make a completely different meal the next night. I will eat the same thing for days though, that doesn't bother me. I cut recipes in half so they will fit in my slow cooker and that still makes about 3-4 servings for me. I have to admit that I would be rather lost without my freezer as I prefer not to eat the same thing several days in a row. However I like Donna's idea of being creative with leftovers and will need to give that a go. Christie
Guest guest
Plastic containers take up way too much room in the freezer, so when I can, I freeze things in plastic freezer bags. They stack a lot more neatly and are more economical as far as space expenditure goes. For individual servings, the plastic sandwich boxes cannot be beaten. They stack easily and you don't end up having to defrost more portions than you use. The vegetable pot pies I make in disposable aluminum pie pans (the mini size). I usually will make a large batch of pie crust then freeze the pies before wrapping and stacking them. Having learned how to make do, though I hate the necessity, was a good lesson for me. We went without a refrigerator for almost 2 years, and without a stove for 5 years. This is a tiny house with a lot of people, so I've learned how to make do with every inch of space, lol. The worst space hogs in the refrigerator (tofu hogs, of course), is the gallon of tea, the gallon of Kool Aid, the 2 liter bottle of Diet Pepsi (helps my constant nausea), the 2 liter bottle of Mountain Dew and bottled water.
