Guest guest
Hello again, I do search the archives, but sometimes i hope things change/improve/etc. One is about pizza. I would love to someday just order a pizza. I do eat cheese as long as it is microbial rennet. Also don't want meat- things in the sauce. Anyone here order pizza? (like i heard Papa John's and Chuckie Cheese is okay)....but i'm leary. The same topic of cheese: i have a really hard time finding the microbial rennet cheeses. (no big health food stores near me) - sometimes i call or email different cheese companies - Kraft, Land o' Lakes, Sorrento, etc. but i get differing answers. Some say they do use microbial in certain cheeses, some say sometimes they use both (whichever is available), etc. I just wish they would require labeling of that on products. It would be a tremendous help to vegetarians, Kosher, etc. Except maybe then they *would* have to stick to what's stated on the package and not make substitutes. ........still, would love to just go out for pizza. ...............or is this too big a wish for small town girls? :-) issy
Guest guest
I order pizza all the time and haven't thought too much about it...maybe I should be worried? Are you worrying that ingredients in the sauce might contain things like chicken broth, or do you mean you are afraid a stray pepperoni or or other meat will get put into your pizza? Also, I am a fairly new vegetarian. I eat cheese, but have never heard of microbial rennet. What does it mean? Thanks for your help, and I hope we can find some places to order vegetarian safe pizza!! -Stephanie , " iseolt " <iseolt wrote: > > Hello again, > > I do search the archives, but sometimes i hope things > change/improve/etc. > > One is about pizza. Guest guest
Hi! I'm new here too. I just read this about the pizza. Many of you may already know this, but just in case... about Kosher stuff: There's a lot of rules that I know nothing about, but having a few Jewish friends, I did learn that they are not allowed to put meat and dairy on the same dish. Obviously, this would help with pizza. Any place that can serve Kosher customers would have to keep the meat on a seperate pizza. Here in So. CT, there are many, many pizza restaurants that have been catering to a vegetarian/vegan populus for a number of years now. Check around your local places... many offer " veggie-*something* " , and don't be afraid to ask them if their sauce has meat in it or if they offer two kinds. Unless they're a really small place, most Italian restaurants/pizza restaurants use primarily a meatless tomato (marinara) sauce. And then offer additional choices like meat or fish sauces. (Hint: It's easier to put the meat in for the customer that wants it, than it is to take it out for someone who doesn't! :- ) ) Peace Blessings ~Jolontru. Guest guest
Hi Jolontru, I don't think the issue brought up was related to the sauce. Most cheese is made with rennet. Rennet is an animal product (it comes from the cow's stomach lining) and it " curdles " the milk to create the cheese. There are cheeses available that are made with microbial enzymes, rather than rennet, but it's more of a " specialty " item. I'm pretty sure that the cheese that most pizzerias use will be the kind that use rennet. If you want to know, check your labels. Most vegetarians prefer to follow the tenet " don't ask, don't tell " when it comes to this sort of thing. :-) Sharon jolontru wrote: > Hi! Guest guest
What I meant to say was, if you want to know about the cheese that YOU buy, check your labels. You can ask the workers at the pizzeria, but they probably won't know, unless they have labels at hand. Sharon Sharon Zakhour wrote: > ...If you want to know, check your labels.
