flax seed oil vs. olive oil

Flax seed oil is not appropriate for cooking. It is a delicate oil

that becomes rancid quickly. It must be stored in the refrigerator and

used without heating. It is best for salad dressings or pouring over

popcorn.

Olive oil is an extremely stable oil. Even at high temperatures it

does not create trans fats. It is appropriate for any type of cooking.

Probably not....the healthy components of flax oil are destroyed at high

heat.

Also, flax oil imparts a stronger, different taste than olive oil.

I take a spoonfull daily and like the nutty flavor. You can add it to

oatmeal (after it's cooked), yogurt, or spread on toast.

Have you tried sunflower seed oil, or safflower oil?

I can't use canola because it upsets my stomach. Those

two, along with olive my most used oils.

Olive oil in sauteing does have a lower burning point, though. So I

have to watch it carefully.

I use olive oil in general cooking like sauteing garlic before I stir

fry broccoli, for example. It also adds a great flavor to cooking.

Hwwever, I only use flax seed oil to make salad dressings. It makes a

great home made mayonnaise. Where I purchase it, it is always

refrigerated. It is very unstable at room temperature and warmer. I

understand that it oxidizes very quickly.

Does anyone know if flax seed oil would be a good substitute for

virgin olive oil in cooking recipes?
