Yum Yum!!! Storm here, in the deep south of north Georgia! We LOVE grits.

They are ground corn, pretty much. The box says, " specially processed

degerminated white corn " . I guess it's a secret how the process them....LOL!

They look like Cream of Wheat, but don't taste anything like them.

Hmmmmmmmmmm....think I'll go make myself a bowl now. My personal preference:

butter, salt & pepper. :)

Grits are a ground hominy. They are very versatile but usually served at

breakfast with butter or a more Southern thing would be Red Eye Gravy

(made from browning ham and then adding strong coffee basically)

In So. C. they serve shrimp and grits for dinner.

As I said before we eat them made with milk and lots of butter.

Have to ask, what are/is grits? Living in the uk means i don't know

what a lot of american things are, so forgive me for asking. I have

heard of it before, but only from american fims. I have to say

though, even though i don't know what it is, i would still associate

it with Alabama (i obviously watch too many films!),

I guess the jury has to still be out then. The " grits " I had were

instant, so I

have never had real grits before according to your post. *lol*

If I ever get down to Tuscalusa (sp) on a business trip, then I will

have to try

the real thing.

Ahhhh...Red Eye gravy, I was a HUGE fan when I was a

carnivore. Not only for ham steaks but for smothered

pork chops. EW gross! I can't believe I used to eat

that. I need to try to make that gravy w/o the ham

drippings, I wonder if they'll ever make a veggie ham

flavored stock.(?)

Warmly,

Allison

Love 'em. I nuke mine. I use regular grits (not instant)and cook it

in the bowl.

3 T grits

2/3 C water

Salt to taste

nuke on high for 3 minutes and stir. I add fake butter to mine.

nuke=microwave

For Oatmeal I put

1/2 C oats

1 c water

salt to taste

nuke for 3 minutes on high.

I like mine with cinnamon and fake butter.

The best part......no sticky pot to wash. Just cook it in the bowl

you'll be eating from.
