Stephanie, I thing I might die giving up hot peppers! (I am going to

take this as a challenge and find other tasty ways to season my food

for the next 4 weeks - but I usually eat them even for breakfast.....LOL))

In case you end up avoiding nightshades for a while, here are other

possible substitutes for potatoe:

-You can make something very similar to mashed potatoes with mashed

cauliflowers.

-You can use Yucca or cassava (latin or asian markets) it does taste

similar to potato and fulfills the same comfort food craving (but it

does have a fiber in the middle you need to remove). You can steam

it, stew it or fry it.

-Taro root (otoe) is not the same color but it has a starchy potato

like taste/texture too.

-Malanga root (Nyame) is harder to find but it is delicious, even more

delicious than cassava in my opinion....

-You can eat all the yams and sweet potatoes that you like, they are

not in the same botanical family as 'real' potatoes.

-Green plantains have somewhat of a potato taste (more like a cross

between a potato and a banana, it sounds weird but it is good)

.....

OK, not would anyone please tell me how I substitute for hot

peppers???? :-(

Thank you for the potato substitute ideas. I have heard of the

mashed cauliflower before, but have been kind of afraid to try it.

Has anyone tried it? Is it any good? I haven't heard of most of the

other suggestions you made, but I think I might try to be adveturous

and try them out. I am glad that sweet potatoes are okay. I love

sweet potatoes!

I wish I could help you out with the hot peppers! I can't believe

you like them even for breakfast! wow! I don't know any substitutes

for peppers though. Anyone else??
