You know I grew some tomatoes on the porch and I

didn't wear gloves when I handled the leaves. I had a

terrible rash up my arms. My niece Mya picked one a

few years ago and didn't wash it, she ate it off the

bush and she got very sick, she had a rash all over

her chest and felt dizzy, I took her to the E.R. and

the doc said it was the tomato and that you always

wear gloves when you handle the bushes and make sure

to wash tell real good before you eat them. I have an

idea Mya probably ate the little star leaf thingy at

the top of the tomato.

Back 250 years ago and more, tomatoes were thought to be poisonous. Some

treasonous cook tried to poison George Washington by feeding him tomatoes. He

loved them and people learned that they are not poisonous. but maybe they got

the bad rep because of the skin irritation and the dizziness and nausia that can

accompany itif it isn't washed off the skin.

Oh wow, so this is why I have been getting a rash when picking

tomatoes or tying the plants up. Thanks for letting us know! I'll

wear gloves from now on.
