thought i'd bore ya'll with my travels over the weekend

wait...don't leave yet! there's cookies afterwards...

soooo

we were gonna go down to LA for a show..but..the venue had too many issues, so

we nixed that idea...

so...we just sorta winged it

we were suppose to leave thursday nite, but due to circumstances beyond my

control, we were a tad late

so...our lil trip started off in SF...beers at toronado, and food from love and

haight....vegan *chicken* sandwich on sourdough...yum

friday...we headed down the coast...it was raining, but not horribly..

hiked around the redwoods at big basin state park...very quiet...except fer the

scolding of steller jay's...and we got followed by very fat squirrels....i knew

i was nuts

from there down t o boulder creek and the bouldercreek brewing company...

the owner brian happily plied us with beer after beer after beer...their

imperial stout was dang yummy...

sun played hide and seek as we headed down to santa cruz....

lunch at the saturn cafe.....

could have strangled an elephant with the amount of food they brought

we had vegan nacho's(very tasty), rebecca had an onion burger, and i had the

vegan rib sandwich thingee...both came with fries, (whoops, sorry, chips), and

salad....

rebecca liked her vegan burger more then i liked my thing..which was a tad over

done..

but..ah well

and of course more beer

(oatmeal stout for me, fat tire amber for her)

then..in quick succession

sea bright brewing...for a few more beers

then coastline brewing...which..in all honesty...sucked

food menu was over priced, and didn't see anything vegan, except for salads, oh

boi...and the beer was boring...

we tried to go to another bar (gee...do you see a trend?)..called the red room,

but, it was closed..and after we heard sooo many good things about it....boohoo

from santa cruz, we headed down the coast....watching the hillsides bloom...rain

sputtered out and ended

we hit marina outside of monterey..for..yet another brewpub...

english ales brewing...

sorta scary place...

housed in the sorta building you'd find a strip mall auto -parts store or the

like in these parts..it was a plastic faux version of an english pub...the

tables and chiars were stuff you'd buy at wal-mart er home depot for your back

deck...plastic formica counters, etc

strange vibe

rebecca said she kept waiting for the crazy person t o come running out of the

back room with a knife screaming...

beer was only ok

no food

finally..back down the coast....

hit san luis obispo after dark...medium college town...

hadn't been to the brewery there (SLO brewing) in over 10 yrs, and they had

changed owners/names...couldn't remember how to find the dang thing! so...the

nite consisted of fruit we got at a local natural food store, and beer from

boulder creek

saturday...on the road before 8am

back down the coast...

down thru solvang(danish town) and thru the santa barbara mountains

stopped in santa barbara..went thru their touristy downtown ...stopped at santa

barbara brewing..ok beer...nut brown was palatable...nuthing food wise..only had

one vegetarian thing on menu(garden burger)

so..off further south..

stopped in the beach community of carpenteria....island brewing...nice views of

the pacific..some surprisingly good diverse beers..only a tasting

room...sooo..no food still

and i'd misplaced my listing of santa barbara vegan places(found em 30 minutes

after we left)

we decided to pass up any more brewpubs on the journey south..and went straight

to LA

gawd i hate LA

anyways

since we hadn't eaten...went to California Vegan in hollywood(two locations in

la, sunset in hollywood, and one in santa monica)

very good food

sorta a cheap small diner look

but good food at a resonable price...

thai emphasis

we had tofu tod(they called it golden tofu), vegan fried shrimp(battered mock

shrimp with vegetables), california chow mein(looked more like chow fun to me,

but..wotever) and...crap..wot did i order? umm...oh..some red curry dish....good

food....

then, off to the belgian beer fest at lucky baldwin's in pasadena

the rest of the day was spent here..i won't bore you with details...

that nite...went to paru's..indian food, back in hollywood

good place...REALLY good food, very vegan friendly..heck, the waiter almost

tried to crawl in my pants it seems

but...

never had to be buzzed into a restaurant before

strange

but...very good food...A+++

wanted to go to some shows er something...but..for a big city, it was lacking in

a lot of stuff...

the only show was the one we decided against....(for good reasons it turns out)

sunday morn arrived....we wake up in studio city...

on the local news, find out how the show had devolved into violence and

riot...(nazi skins, punx, and cops...bad combination)

headed off to santa monica....walked around..went on the pier...lalllala

lunch at Real Food Daily..organic vegan...had some sorta rice rolls, rebecca had

a vegan tofu wrap, i had veggie stir fry

good food, tho service left a bit to be desired...slow and unresponsive...

good food tho

needed t o head back, so...back north

stopped in Ventura...anacapa brewing....in their touristy beach downtown....

really nice/friendly waitstaff..gleefully pointed out wot could be made vegan on

menu...good beer....

(we had bruschetta and salad)...(salad was all organic as well)

then...back up the 101 freeway

to the tiny town of Nipomo, and the santa maria brewing

tiny lil brewery off a frontage road

another strange locale....small crowd inside the lil place..maybe dozen ppl

a blue grass band was playing...

place was decorated in eclectic military/*outdoorsman*(read hunter/fisher) bar

style....

everyone looked at us when we walked in...

owner was nice tho...talked beer with him fer awhile...beers there were organic,

how he brewed, etc..

weird place tho...

then we took some back roads, nearly got ourselves killed, and scurried over to

the boring I-5 and hurried north.

as soon as we crossed the hills into livermore, it started to pour(it had been

sunny in la)...got home after 9pm..and had a late dinner of tofu burgers,

grilled veggies, and some beer we brought back from our trip...

and that was about it

:)

cheers

fraggle

Cool. Glad my concerns for your safety were unfounded. Sure sounded like

" Drink; drive to a new place; drink some more; drive to a new place " from

your description.

> 1. takes more then a couple beers per venue to get us drunk

Heh. Not too drunk to legally drive.

> 2. i didn't drive

Who did? I guess I assumed you guys were on motorcycles or something.
