Guest guest
Well as i said this is my opinion. In terms of there being a mistake in my thinking regarding him being cheaper. I read that one of the reasons he was hired was because he was alot cheaper so it's not my actual thinking.Of course it might not be true as we certainly can't believe all that we read that's for sure.I'm afraid looking the part is important aswell i mean look at all the nonsense Daniel Craig is having to put up with from Bond fans who don't think he is right for the part simply because he's not their idea of what Bond should look like. My problem with David is mainly that i think he is simply a poor actor and no he is not in my opinion right for the role of Dr Who. I think we will just have to disagree on this. Lots of people think he is a good actor and disagree with me but i simply can't see it and i have watched him in a few roles. In terms of awards as i said before they carry very little weight with me because some of the finest actors and strongest performances have not won accolades.Awards are simply other people's opinions. There are alot of internal politics that go on regarding awards allocations. As i said some people think that Hugh Grant is a good actor i think his acting is simply awful. Similarily with Kenau Reeves i also think that despite flashy films like the Matrix his acting is dreadful. I'm sure alot of others with think he's a fantastic actor it's just a matter of people having different opinions. --- jo <jo.heartwork wrote: > I think he is a good actor. Guest guest
Hi Peter I think there are alot of things that make a good actors chief amongst then being what you said you believed made a good actor eg the total believability factor. For me David dosen't have that but for you he quite clearly does. For me there are different levels there are good actors great actors, average actors, poor actors etc etc I always find it fascinating how people can have such differing views on the same thing. ab wrote: > Hi Linda > > I suppose it depends on what you classify as " good " > when it comes to acting. > Olivier is generally considered to be one of the > best stage actors of all > time, but the only film I've ever seen him in he was > completely unbelievable > as the character he was meant to be playing - he > completely hammed it up. > > I've seen David Tennant in 4 things - Harry Potter, > 1 episode of Casanova, > Quatermass and now Dr Who - in all of them he's > played a completely > different character, and he was completely > believable in all of them: at no > time did I think that he was " acting " - he just was > the character he played, > which to me is what makes a good actor. > > I have no idea who Clive Owen is, but I agree with > you about Hugh Grant. > > As a matter of interest - in general, what do you > think makes a good actor? > > BB > Peter > > > On 18/04/06, linda galvin <ljgukuk wrote: > > > > Hi Peter > > > > Thanks for that. > > I always welcolme different views. > > I have watched David in previous roles and come to > > my decision about his acting ability through > those. > > Everyone will have different views about the > acting > > ability of certain actors/actresses. > > For instance i have no time for Hugh Grant or > Clive > > Owen as i do not believe that they are very > > good actors but i'm sure that there will be many > that > > disagree. > > In terms of Laurence Olivier this was a man that > > featured in film, television and the stage he is > quite > > a different story all together he conquered all > > mediums. > > > > Awards means very little to me some of the best > actors > > and finest performances have never won awards or > been > > honoured. There is alot of internal politics in > such > > things. > > > > Simply put i have no time for this man as an actor > > other actors i think are marvelous people feel > > likewise > > we will just have to agree to disagree. > > It is not a question of who is right and who is > wrong > > we just have different views. > > > > > > > > > > --- Peter Kebbell <metalscarab wrote: > > > > > Hi Linda > > > > > > Since you gave up on the series before seeing > the > > > new Doctor, I find it odd > > > that you know that he's no good in the role. > > > > > > In fact, the reason he was chosen was because he > is > > > one of the " hottest " > > > properties in acting at the moment, and because > he > > > is a huge Dr Who fan. > > > While obviously you are entitled to your > opinion, > > > the entertainment world > > > has given him just about every acting award > going! > > > > > > And as to non-film actors not being " on the same > > > level " , I think Laurence > > > Olivier might have had something to say about > that! > > > > > > BB > > > Peter > > > > > > > > > On 18/04/06, linda galvin <ljgukuk > wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > Well i just don't like anything about him. > > > > I think he's an awful actor so it starts from > > > there > > > > and i just don't like anything else about him > > > > the way he looks, talks nothing. > > > > It dosen't help that i liked Christopher > > > Ecclestone > > > > alot but i heard ( and i do not know if that > was > > > > true)that they chiefly choose David because > > > > he was so much cheaper than some of the other > > > actors > > > > they wanted who like Christopher Ecclestone > are > > > actors > > > > on the world stage and command huge fees. > > > > David is largely a television actor so is not > on > > > the > > > > same level. > > > > As i say i'm sure he's a lovely man but > personally > > > > i have no time for him and do not feel he > should > > > be > > > > playing a role like Dr Who. > > > > This is of course just my personal opinion and > i > > > know > > > > others like him alot. > > > > I suspose it's like food we just don't all > like > > > the > > > > same thing. > > > > > > > > --- heartwerk <jo.heartwork wrote: > > > > > > > > > That's a shame. Guest guest
well i haven't felt that about most of the others. I have no problems changing doctors. I simply don't get attached in a way that die hard fans do. I liked Christopher Ecclestone but was more than happy to find out who the new Dr Who would be. I haven't felt David was good in any of the roles i have seen him in. Not being a die hard Dr Who fan i'm not precious about the role just would like to see it played by someone i think can act. --- Peter Kebbell <metalscarab wrote: > >It's just that i've seen him in quite a few things > and > >i just don't think he is a good actor so have no > >interest in watching him in anything. > > Y'know - I find this whole conversation is bringing > back a lot of childhood > memories... whenever a " new " doctor came along, this > same argument would go > on across the playground... the " old " doctor > couldn't be replaced, the new > one was a terrible actor, and so on (of course, in > the playground we were a > little less polite, but same basic concepts).... > it's interesting that > virtually all of those people who complained when > Peter Davison, Colin > Baker & Sylvester McCoy took over now seem to think > that all the actors > were, after all, very good in the role... :-) > > BB > Peter >

Yes i understand that Peter well as i think that David has been poor in the previous roles i've seen him in and is in geneeral (in my view at least) a poor actor generally i'm not going to think he would be good in this role which in my view requires statue and presence or most other roles. Guest guest
I've seen David Tennant in only one programme before Dr Who. In Quatermass he played a totally different sort of person - in fact you would hardly know he was the same actor. I always think that means the person is a good actor, not just a celebrity.
