Guest guest
I'm new to vegetarian cooking (I'm still in transition!), looking throught the archives and found info on nutritional yeast and B12. I understand the need for supplementing, but I'm seeing all kinds of ways to include it in cooking (as opposed to just mixing in liquid and drinking). I've never used this before but would like to try it - does it add a certain flavor that people enjoy? (I saw something about it sometimes being used ILO cheese - I love cheese......something that's hard to give up!). Any places I can go (sites, books etc) where I can learn more? My dad (age 83) goes regularly for a B12 shot and I always knew this was common for seniors. And I remember taking Brewer's yeast when I was in college (LONG ago!) I don't remember how I started or why I was taking it! I guess maybe I need a good Vegetarian diet for dummies course (I'll admit I've mostly been experiementing with recipes). Guest guest
This is NOT brewer's yeast and I would suggest using it in small amounts of a small recipe first. I disliked it and didn't use it until I found a few sauce and scrambled tofu recipes here, as well as Judy's Marvi Whip recipes. I love all the ones I've tried. If you try it on popcorn, try it first on a small amount--it's not cheese and it doesn't taste like cheese in its raw form if you ask me. It's cheesy but it doesn't really taste like cheese either. (And I'm not bold enough to try it mixed in water. Eeks!) Guest guest
Thanks for the ideas Heidi! (and I knew it wasn't brewer's yeast! LOL, just remembering that I used to take Brewer's yeast long ago, but can't remember why!)
