Guest guest
Barbara, Your parents were right. Our digestions were built upon ripe fruit which has nearly all we need. Of course fruit has fibre which can be removed with a juicer but then the lower gut is deprived of its basic fodder. Like it or not there is a lot of important chemistry that goes on in that area as it has for millions of years and goes on far more with other primates and mammals. The place for juicing is in and out of fasting, whilst in transition and to offer cooked food eaters as a break from the awful bunk they shove down themselves. I find that with a raw diet the need for fasting goes down as well. Guest guest
Hi, Barb. I'm new to the list. I juice. Typically, I juice carrots and dandelions greens together, or carrots and wheatgrass together. At a different juicing, I'll do pear and apple together. But I also have these things unjuiced, as well. As far as having too much fiber, it really depends on what you're eating. If you're eating greens, I can't imagine anyone eating that many greens to give you " too much " fiber. I hope someone else addresses that issue, as I 'm curious about it too. Guest guest
Where do we start? Veggie juices usually are based with carrot and 1/4 or less green, apple to sweeten. I prefer eating the whole fruit...but watermelon can be juiced completely and you lose little rind. http://www.earthportals.com/Portal_Net/juice.html http://www.healthrecipes.com/fruit_juice_recipes.htm Diana of Dewberry Hill Anyone know of a good site for " Vegetable " juicing recipes or have some to share? Guest guest
This is my basic veggie juice blend: 5 lbs. carrots 8 stalks celery 1 large cucumber 1 medium beet 1 large granny smith apple This makes anywhere from 48 to 72 oz. of juice, depending on the juiciness of the veggies (I use a Champion juicer, you might get other results, more or less, using another kind of juicer.) Guest guest
Yes, many people do this sort of thing. These foods do make superior snacks vs. their mainstream counterparts. But you are still refining the foods, you are removing the most important nutrients of all, oxygen and water. And you are no longer eating the foods whole. The fiber in a given food is integral to the digestion of that food. The digestive system is not a checkerboard on which we can just move things around as we please and still get optimal. Again, no " right " or " wrong " in any of this. There are simply choices and outcomes, or consequences. We can literally choose the results we wish to create, then create them, that's the beauty of it all. So if we wish to create convenience, we can do so. If we wish to create amazing energy and vitality and genuinely have a shot at living healthfully to 140 or 150, we can do so. All in a day's -- and a lifetime's -- decision making. Guest guest
If I were you, I'd do an extensive search online, especially reputable health sites and see what they say about juicers. That's what I had to do cause I just wanted to know which juicer produced the 'healthiest' juice. There are lots of juicers out there that might be a breeze to clean, but then you might be compromising the quality of the juice by heating it. Just do your homework. Guest guest
We juice two to three times a day. We have a Champion juicer. It extracts more juice than the small ones. We started out with the small ones. The better juicer you get extracts better. We are juicers though. We have both juicers, wheatgrass and the Champion and use them everyday. We have not been ill for a long time. (knock on wood! lol) They do take up a lot of space. Guest guest
You need a high speed for juicing vegetables and fruits and a low speed squeezing action for wheatgrass. If the juicer has two speeds than that would be wonderful. We have seen juicers advertised that say they will do both but they don't. Guest guest
I do! I love to juice. We use tons of carrots (about 20), about 5 celery stalks, and a handful of parsley, then maybe an apple if we have one around. It makes two large glasses. We had the Juiceman juicer for a short while, the motor gave out. Now we have the Jack La Lane juicer and we're happy with it. The motor is sufficient for us, and you don't have to chop things so much to they would fit in the tube. I compost the rest of the veggies that don't get juiced. If you're looking for specific juicing recipes, I'd be glad to look it up in the book that came with the juicer. It's a great thing to do, IMO. Great for you. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your reply. I was about to believe I wasn't going to get a response. Yes, I too feel the same way about the pulp and have often thought about putting it back in the juice after juicing. I juice in an attempt to aid in digestion better. I use a juicer that I believe could squeeze the moisture out of a rock. Won't mention the name on here (don't want to break any rules) but he and his wife sell this juicer on TV. Got mine at target. Guest guest
The VitaMix juicer has a motor the equivalency of a small boat's motor, so that might do it. The videos on their website are pretty awesome. Please let me know what you think of the VitaMix as I am currently saving for one, and would like a more unbiased opinion than some of the reviews I have seen! By the way, I add raw organic honey to my smoothies -it is yummy! (Though some people do not consider it vegan or vegetarian). Guest guest
I love my vita mix. You get all the juice and fiber, which is good. That fiber, helps to slow down any increase in blood sugar and make our bodies work regular. Fiber not only promotes health, it also help reduce the risk for some chronic diseases. For instance, fiber prevents constipation, hemorrhoids and diverticulosis. Fiber is also linked to prevent some cancers especially colon and breast cancer. In addition, fiber may help lower the LDL cholesterol (the Bad cholesterol) and the total cholesterol therefore reducing the risk of heart disease. Furthermore, fiber can help lower blood sugar therefore help better manage diabetes. http://www.healthcastle.com/fiber-solubleinsoluble.shtml It also is more filling. You'll love your Vita Mix. You can also join a Vita Mix for lots of great discussion on them. Here is one that I enjoy being on. vitamix-users/ Several here are also members there.
