Guest guest
ready made polenta, when grated makes a passable substitute for cheese in salads and sandwiches esp. This product is available in certain supermarkets. If you really want to treat your senses try king of cabbages - romanesco - a truly regal repast. Polenta weaned me off dairy products after twenty years as a vegetarian tho it is hardly ever mentioned in vegetarian literature or publications.I wonder why? Guest guest
I've had it since birth. I used to eat it anyway and suffer. I know none of the substitutes are quite the same but many are close enough. Donna --- wwjd <jtwigg wrote: > I feel for you Donna. Guest guest
We always used a red sauce (spageti sauce) with polenta. I bet that would make a fine hot sandwich , Jenni < wrote: > > i've never bought polenta but make it all the time! i love it. > never thought of grating it or slicing for a sandwich... we are no > longer budgeting $ for fake cheeses, and trying to avoid it anyway > (preferring more whole foods).... i'll have to try a polenta slice > sandwich on my daughter to see what she thinks! thx 4 the idea!! > =) > jenni > cheese substitute > Posted by: " christopher9297 " byrdland5d > christopher9297 > Sun Feb 17, 2008 4:35 am (PST) > > ready made polenta, when grated makes a passable substitute for cheese > in salads and sandwiches esp. Guest guest
There are good alternative cheeses, made from rice mild and almond milk. Most all cheeses except ricatta cheese can be had in a non-dary substitute. I can't tell the difference between real mozzerella and almond mazzerella. It melts and tastes just like the real thing. Guest guest
and ricotta cheese can be substituted for with tofu... especially in italian dishes.... I mash up some tofu, add basil, garlic, nutritional yeast, spike & spinach, and it makes a great lasagna or just plain yummy addition to pasta with red sauce! =) jenni b " It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.
