Guest guest
Oh now I do think I have seen those at Whole Foods. Thank all of you for mentioning thjese and Judy for sending the picture. Everyone brand seems to have it's own special flavor so I can't wait to try try tese. I use canned tomatoes in stews, lentils, chili and I will eat them as a side dish when I'm rushed. OK cold out of the can too hahaha Donna --- wwjd <jtwigg wrote: > Here you go Donna. Guest guest
Muir Glen Organic canned tomato products are the best I have found. The only thing is I have a hard time finding them with low salt. Very high quality products from this company. I LOVE tomatoes and use them a lot. Guest guest
There was something I saw about imported (in this case, it was only Italian) canned tomatoes recently - maybe it was on America's Test Kitchen - saying that in taste tests, the domestic tomatoes were actually better. But I don't remember the reason why... OK, I was curious, so I just looked, and it is due to canned tomatoes from overseas being packed in puree - which is cooked tomato, giving the tomatoes a cooked taste which can be unwanted - rather than in juice as domestic companies use, which is not cooked and does not impart any flavor. The difference in practice stems from US tariffs on imported European fruits and vegetables imposed in 1989, and Italian manufacturers wanting to get around the duty. The article about their tests and findings (which surprised the testers quite a bit) is here - http://www.americastestkitchen.com/tasting.asp?tastingid=309 & iSeason=7 Hopefully that link worked, if not, copy and paste into a browser. Guest guest
I would have to agree that the Imported Plum Tomatoes are rather bland compared to the Pomi type tomatoes. But I can always spice them up with spices I prefer-seeing I can't tolerate algae additives (i.e., sea salt, carrageenan ,and guar gum).
