Guest guest
Where in St. Pete did you find this store? Did they have produce? I am near one good store, Richard's, but they have discontinued their produce section. And the other one that was within walking distance has been closed for about 6 months. Cassie Cassie, Dear Me! I certainly hope the store I have been to so many times while vacationing is NOT the one that you say has been closed!!! The one I went to was on...I'm trying to think of the street...Central Ave.(?) and just east of the " Corey Causway " or maybe just south of the numbered road that crosses over the small bay to St. Pete Beach. The name of the store is " Nature's Finest Foods " , and I have loved shopping there for years and years! Where I live (when not on vacation--LOL!) is the middle of the midwestern state of Illinois, and really GOOD places to get GOOD foods (produce, whole foods, organic foods and so on) are hard to find. Yes, this store in St. Pete had lots of nice-looking produce, vegetables, varieties of fruit, and such a wonderful selection of " dry " bulk foods. There were probably 3 or 4 DIFFERENT kinds of whole grain rice--maybe more--available. Odd, though it sounds, when our family has traveled somewhere, I have often ventured to look for some really interesting places like this store. Buying " gourmet " whole grain rice, interesting dry beans, and other " easy-to-keep " foods has been my type of " souvenirs " to bring home, more often than not! Last summer, I happened upon a wonderful place in the St. Louis, Missouri area (the community of Kirkwood, Mo., to be specific, in the " greater St. Louis " area). This establishment is a medium-sized " grocery store " that serves an international clientele. The array of foods, many of which are perfect for those who are vegetaians, is wonderful. In just two trips to this place, my pantry " collection " of various beans, peas, split legumes, and similar foods (which I can barely pronounce the names of!) nearly doubled! I found there many unusual fresh vegetables that begged to be tried, among them a batch of LOVELY small, egg-sized purple eggplants. In the St. Pete, Florida area, there also was a really good natural foods store in the Clearwater area...the name escapes me. I wonder if it's still open--I believe it was called " Nature's Food Patch " or something like that. I went there a couple times several years ago and remember they had a great deli with many good vegetarian (and vegan) ready-to-eat foods. I think I heard from a friend who lives in Tampa that Sarasota (or near there) has a large store that's either Whole Foods Market or a franchise with a similar approach and clientele. I cannot remember the name of it, however. Hope maybe the above info helps you regarding the store I went to in St. Pete. Have a pleasant evening! Here in Illinois there is snow and more " winter storm " predicted tonight! --Laura B., in Illinois PS: Oh I just found out the name of that other store: " The Granery " , I believe it is, and one is in Sarasota. Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
Guest guest
Do you remember the name, address, or location of this place in Kirkwood? I live a couple of hours North of St. Louis, and I am always looking for good places to buy these types of foods. Thanks~ Tina , " L.B. Guest guest
Wow, I have lived here for 3 years, and thought I knew much. I guess not! Thanks so very much for the insight. The store that closed was on 66th st., north of 38th Ave., I think it was " Body and Soul " ... A friend that I walk with, my LLL leader LOL, was telling me about Nature's Finest. I have yet to venture down there, yet. I have never been to Whole Foods, though there is one on Dale Mabry in Tampa off I-275. The other one in Sarasota sounds interesting. I will have to look it up when we go visit our friends down there. Thanks, Cassie " L.B. " <elbee577 wrote: Where in St. Pete did you find this store? Did they have produce? The people there seemed so helpful and friendly when I visited there last summer. For several years, off and on, I have had problems with " chemical sensitivities " (darned ole pesticides that are ever-present in the place where we live!) Avoiding much of that by eating natural, whole (preferably organic) foods--particularly avoiding non-organically produced corn, soy, or dairy products--I have mainly been able to " manage " the problems (physical effects) from this unavoidable exposure. (BTW, I use as few of these kinds of things myself--we NEVER have had fertilizers, insecticides and such around our home; it's from my neighbors, the surrounding " croplands " and so on that it comes in here.) At one time, I strictly avoided almost any foods that I didn't prepare myself, even avoiding restaurants most of the time. That is when I discovered, during a family vacation (we like Pass-a-Grille Beach!) this wonderful store in St. Pete with all the good natural & organic foods. I come from up north, and I thought the array of veggies there--nearly all of them are organic--was impressive. A lot of health food stores I have seen seem to be limited when it comes to offering organic produce--lots of packaged foods, but low on the side of choices for fresh fruits and vegetables. This one's good with the produce. If you go to a larger place, however, like Whole Foods (which I LOVE!)--now THEY would have a selection that's even larger of the fresh produce. I'm sorry to hear the place on 66th St. closed. I think I have been there once, at least. Try a visit to Nature's Finest--I hope you like it!! Blessings! Have a good day! --Laura B., In COOOLLLDDD Illinois! Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
