Guest guest
I would love some help with this question... Has anyone, taken a Regular meat recipe, say...a chicken pot pie...and made it vegetarian ? If so, WHAT " meat " did you use, and what other changes did you have to make? I've been deleating a lot of my old recipies as we are mostly vegetarian, So any advice would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks so much Susan in Albuquerque
Guest guest
I use Veggie Ground Round instead of hamburger in recipes. Works just great for meat(less) loaf, hamburger(less) helper and most anything elses. Anne - Susan Wednesday, March 05, 2008 1:38 AM Recipe Revision I would love some help with this question... Guest guest
Oh, I do that all the time! In fact, I have the old Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, and Betty Crocker too! I like them for when my husband wants something " like Mom made! " The other day, I took Gimmee Lean, and made Swiss Steak with the patties, I've also done this with gluten steaks, very good! Cassoroles are very easy when it comes to burger crumbles, and if you want to have something like chicken, there are lots of products out there you can buy that are very chicken like: Veat, Worthington Fry-Chik, Boca Chick Patties, Moringstar Farms, you name it. Veat is the closest thing I've ever had that is just like chicken, it's scary. Spendy, but if you write the company, or call them, they will often send you coupons for a free package, as well as dollars off coupons! 360./naturekeene7 My Website! Guest guest
When I became vegetarian I did not know what to eat so I just converted all my old recipies to no meat. Of course, a pot roast is pretty hard to leave out the meat, but in most things I could either just leave it out or substitute portabella mushrooms. They have a meaty texture. Now I use seitan when I need a meat substitute sometimes, but I still like the portabellas best. Katie Susan <hobi_sheliya wrote: I would love some help with this question... Guest guest
ABSOLUTELY! It depends on the recipe what meat you use. You have to think about the texture and flavor you are trying to achieve. Sometimes seitan is more appropriate than tofu and sometimes tempeh works better and sometimes you want to use a prepared meat alternative. It just depends on your objective and tastes. It totally depends on your tastes, dietary restrictions or choices, what other elements of a recipe you choose to alter. I am vegan and eat only whole foods, therefore, almost everything in the old recipes must be changed. You have to experiment for yourself to find the proper substitutions for you. I have made recipes a half dozen times before it tasted closest to the original for me but with the better ingredients.
