All over the place but I'm always able to locate them.

Well 97% of the time anyway .LOL

I copy and paste all my recipes in my Microsoft one note program. I have a

where do you keep your recipes?

I'm wondering where people keep their recipes. For recipes I get from

this and other groups or various Web sites (as well as magazines or

the newspaper) I have two 2-inch binders: one for vegetarian and one

for not. (The non-vegetarian binder is getting increasingly less and

less use, by the way.) The vegetarian binder is divided by ingredient

(beans & legumes, rice, cheese, tofu), though I'm thinking I should

divide it by type of dish (casserole, stir-fry, slow cooker. etc.).

This works, but at some point my binder is going to fill up. I keep

thinking about putting them on my computer, but then I have to print

out the recipe, which sort of defeats the purpose.

I'd love to know what members of this group do.

Thanks,

Mike

I have a box and binder for paper recipes.

For my *potential* recipes from groups, I Copy/Paste an intriguing recipe

from my Daily Digest and send it to my Gmail account. (I'm a recipe-aholic and

would waste too much paper printing everything that looks good.)

Gmail allows me to add several labels to a recipe so basically I can find

them in many " folders " . For Donna's " Roasted Potato Salad with Tempeh " I'm

labeling it with " Tempeh, " " Potatoes, " and " Salad. " If I like it, I will add a

" TNT " label to it. I don't have a good system on my computer for doing this,

o/w I'd probably store them there. (This was Katie's--cozykate--idea btw.)

If I lose them all (ie, if Gmail account explodes) it won't be the end of

the world, because I still have the group files to go to. (I keep a separate

running list of fabulous recipes that I must not forget.)

I have a large, 3 " I think, binder that I have lots of protective sleeves for.

I'm a messy cook so I can simply wipe the sleeves off if I get something on

them.

I keep mine on the computer until I am ready to use them, in which case

I print them and store them in a card file with all kinds of category

divisions. I have a subscription to Bon Appetit, and have d to

other cooking mags in the past. When I run out of shelf space, I

dismantle the magazine and keep the recipes I have used or think I will

use in a ring binder divided into appetizers, soups, salads, entrees,

grains, vegetables, and dessert.

I think I came up with my system from someone's suggestion in this group, but

can't remember who!

I use Outlook Express email and have a folder I labled " Recipes " in my

" Local Folders " (on my left). I just drag email recipes I want to try into that

folder from my Inbox. Then when I want something new, I search that folder and

print it out.

Also........

I have two 3 ring binders, one for TNT (tried and true recipes I've already

made), and one binder for recipes I WANT to try. Each binder is full of plastic

sheet protectors, so I can easily move them around, and as I try the recipes out

I move them into the TNT binder. So, I know I can grab that binder and make

something that I like. The WANT TO TRY binder is when I have some time to

experiment. I also keep notes of all my favorite wines I discover in the TNT

binder!

I use Incredimail (a high graphics email client kind of like outlook) and

since all the emails are downloaded to my computer I can save my favorite

emails in their own folders. So I have one folder for recipes to try and one

folder for the keepers.

I bought photo albums with the pockets, the perfect size for index cards and

recipes that I cut out. I use tabs to mark areas ....ie I bought several books

in different colors, one for desserts, but within desserts I put tabs for pies,

cookies, cakes etc...one for salads, one for breads etc......

I like this format since I can move around or throw away any recipes I don't

like

RE: where do you keep your recipes?

I use two pocket folders. Each one is labeled: Tofu, Main Dishes,

Desserts, Cakes, etc. Whatever divisions make sense to me. I don't use a

lot of dips, so I combine Dips, Spreads, & Canapes together, etc. This way,

I can slip a recipe out, stick it on the fridge to make and put it on one

side of the folder to indicate I have used it recently.

Hi everyone,

New to this group, really enjoying your good energy as well as the helpful ideas

you're sharing!

Never found a good solution for recipes. My latest attempt, which seems to be

working well, is a 2-inch binder filled with letter-sized plastic pockets.

Recipes face both sides of each plastic pocket; I paste several on a sheet of

letter-sized paper if they're printed small. Though not very environmentally

sound, the advantage of the plastic is that the recipe doesn't get destroyed as

I manipulate it with wet hands or spill stuff on it (like I did some of

yesterday's leek and potato soup!).

I was having to find and print out the same recipe too many times by using other

methods.

Sometimes I use my printer/scanner to photocopy a page out a cookbook, and place

the page directly in my binder. Beats having a book open on the counter, getting

hit with the spills and spoils!

I classify recipes by type of dish, and order them within each category by main

ingredient. E.g., all bean and lentil soup recipes are together, but separate

from main dishes using these ingredients.

Best,

lena
