Guest guest
Stevia is bitter and takes some getting used to. I find that on grapefruit, it's fine since it's already sour. When I make tea (iced) I used stevia to make it sweet and agave nectar to make it less bitter. It's a nice combo I stay away from sugar and splenda Kathleen VA
Guest guest
Thanks for your input on it. I have another on-line friend who loves it. I have found over the years that people's taste buds differ on things like the taste, or after-taste, of sweeteners other than sugar. When I used to get to eat grapefruit, I can't have it because of my blood pressure meds... darn, darn, double darn! because I love it....I didn't use anything on it...just the grapefruit itself was enough. I especially love ruby red grapefruit. I hardly ever make iced tea anymore. We prefer water most of the time anyway. Thanks again, Nancy C. Stevia is bitter and takes some getting used to. Guest guest
Nancy, I totally agree with you. We all have different taste buds AND our taste buds do change.. I know that there are things I like now that I hated before. I have taken things I didn't like and made myself eat it until I got used to it, then I liked it. I used to turn my nose at, and say....no, no, I won't eat that, it tastes aweful...bok choy, eggplant, brussel sprouts....now.........I absolutely LOVE them!! LOL I am so happy I didn't give up on them. Grapefruit is another one that I used to hate because it was so bitter. I have since learned that if you pick them right and peel them right they can be so sweet they don't need anything at all. I want to get a grapefruit tree, a friend of mine has one and they are to die for!!!!!!!!! I find it is all a " determination, decision " as to how far we are willing to go to get on the right track to health. Jeannie nancihank <nancihank wrote: Thanks for your input on it. Guest guest
I guess I am lucky in that there are very few foods that I don't like.... cilantro is one....I cannot stand the taste of it....and caraway seeds are another. When I make rye bread, I put sesame seeds in it... caraway makes me want to upchuck! I never made my kids eat something that they didn't want to eat but they had to taste it. If they didn't like it the way I fixed it, then I would try fixing it another way....and if they didn't like what I had cooked for dinner, I always said that I wasn't a short order cook but if they wanted a peanut butter and honey sandwich...there was the bread, peanut butter and honey....get after it. I could not stand the thought of MAKING a child eat something they thought tasted awful because after all I would not have liked it if someone did that to me....at any age. AND, I could not send a child to bed hungry....never. My kids didn't like steamed or boiled yellow squash but LOVED it when I made fried squash...nutrition is not exactly the same but it got them to eat something I thought they should eat. Long before Jessica Seinfeld thought of sneaking purees into her kids food, I was doing that myself. Darn, wish I had thought to write down all of the things I did and then I could have published that cookbook in the 80's when she was still a little kid herself! On grapefruit....the white grapefruit are usually pretty tart...but, if you can get good ruby reds....mmmmmm....they are so sweet. But, like I said... I can't have any of them anymore. Eating grapefruit with my BP meds causes some kind of bad reaction...who knows....can't change it so I don't worry about it anymore. I used to love to make a sliced avacado and grapefruit salad....just a drizzle of a good French dressing over it... YUMMMM! Oh, well, at least I can still have the avacado part. And, I agree, if you are dedicated to improving your health or changing the way you eat, you are much more likely to be adventursome and try things you normally wouldn't try. Just remember, if you don't like it one way....fix it another....you will find a way you like it eventually. BTW, those Mock Crab Cakes......I LOVE them!!...fresh lemon juice on them. Delicious!!
