Guest guest
It's like a waterchesnut in flavor, crisp and juicy. Make matchsticks and sprinkle chili powder across the top and squeeze lemon or lime over it. I dice and add to salads or I peel and eat it like it is. The ji sounds like hee. Guest guest
Reni, Your pronounciation is correct. However it is a Mexican/Spanish word so the 'i' might be prounced a little more e sound if you are a *native*. Jicama is a crisp, veggie that grows on a vine in Mexico. Delicious in salads. I often find it in salad bars here in Colorado. You can also find it in your local market's produce section .You can cook it just as you do any other veggie but I think the flavor is best if eaten raw. Choose a med. size, firm not shriveled with no soft mold looking spots. The older Jicama sometimes has a starchy like taste. Taste and texture somewhat like a potato. Guest guest
I beg to differ with you on how it grows. It could grows like a potatoe or carrot. Not on a vine. Guest guest
Sorry. My last post was messed up. I have a migraine headache today and not typing really well. Jicama is a root veggie as someone else already stated. Is is not grown on a vine. It is very good used as you would use potatoes. It is also very good for the stomach in veggie juices. Guest guest
So sorry you have a migraine, Sonnie. I used to have them...it does get better, usually, as you get older. Lie down....dark room... sleep....we will be here when you feel better. Nancy C. Sorry. My last post was messed up. I have a migraine headache today and not typing really well. Guest guest
It's sweet enough to eat raw with no dip as a snack. I've also had it on a southwestern-style green salad which was topped with corn, beans, tofu, guacamole, etc. along with the jicama.
