Guest guest
This is a neat link and you can find cheeses by catagories like texture, country and type of milk as well as by name. I'm posting it because it also has a list of vegetarian cheeses. I never knew there were so many! These are not vegan but still might be of interrest. http://www.cheese.com/
Guest guest
I am confused! - I noticed Brie on the alphabetical list but not on the vegetarian list.....actually, scratch that........ why would any cheese need to be listed separately? What would make cheese non-vegetarian - I am out of the loop here I guess....... I have not cut out any cheese......yikes...I am little afraid to find the answer to my question......... You rock. Guest guest
Some cheese has rennet from the lining of a cow's stomach in it. Same type of cheese by another manufacturer uses vegetable rennet. That is the difference. Lacto-ova Vegetarians, which includes many here, does eat cheese, only the ones that are made from vegetable rennet are vegetarian. Vegan Vegetarians - don't eat cheese at all or eggs. Welcome to our group. Guest guest
Don't worry about it. Vegetarians eat cheese. It is vegans who don't eat cheese or use milk or eggs. Guest guest
Hello, I am new. But I have sine learned that being Vegetarian and being Vegan are not the same thing. It is my understanding that Vegens do not consume any Dairy, Milk, Eggs Animal Products, Animal fat/oils. Vegetarians do some of the same but they do consume Milk, Dairy, Eggs and oils. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Thank you for this link. I have been doing a lot of research since I found out about animal rennet. I recently bought some Frigo String Cheese. It is made by Saputo. I emailed them and this is the response I got: " Our String Cheese products contain bovine milk and microbial (non-animal sourced) rennet. Please note that ingredients or changes in formulations may affect the above information and are subject to change without notice. " So it looks like it is safe for vegetarians!! I am glad, because this is some of the best string cheese I have eaten.
