Can you give me any advise? Maybe they are supposed to be this way or maybe my needles were too big???? I have a couple favorites. The first is the pattern my 99 year old grandmother in law gave me, knit from a corner with a lacy hole around the edge. 'Knitting with Balls' had a pattern for a simple K2, P2 ribbed cloth I'm going to try next time to see how it is. I've done others that require following a pattern and while they are pretty and interesting to knit, I don't like to think that hard to knit something that will eventually end up in the garbage disposal by mistake. By too bulky, do you mean too heavy, or too dense? If they are too dense your needles might have been too small. the corner knit one I make is nice because since you start with 1 stitch and increase until you have the width you want, you have more control. I just use cotton, either a big cone, or if I find something at the resale shop (I got scads of white cotton for $.50 a skein not too long ago) In answer to Deanna's query, I haven't knit any dish cloths to dry dishes yet as my terry cloth ones seem to breed like rabbits in my cupboard and I have loads. I will knit some eventually though. Amy **************Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. My church, Church of the Holy Apostles in Wauconda, IL has a " Prayer Shawl " group. We do shawls for those that are in need due to illness, grief and also for new born babies, weddings, etc. All time prayers are in order. Most of us knit but there is one lady that crochets and I have to say she has a shawl ready to be " Blessed " almost every Sunday. Much faster than the rest of us. in Northern Illinois ************** Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. Guest guest
There are many different patterns and cotton yarn weights. You should go to the dishcloth groups for lots of patterns: MonthlyDishcloths/ ClothOfTheWeek/ Peaches and Creme also has patterns, as well as different weights of USA made cotton yarn [just a satisfied customer, no business interest]: http://www.peaches-creme.com/Kitchen%20and%20Bath%20Patterns.htm You probably have used worsted weight yarn to make your dish cloth. You can make dish cloths out of sport/DK weight yarn. Also, when I knit a worsted weight dishcloth, I usually use a size 5 needle so it is fairly tight. Yes, they are somewhat heavy, but they wear forever. I also use them as face cloths edging them with cotton crochet thread. Kathleen Knitting Fanatic do you have a sort of simple pattern for a knitted dish cloth? I have made a couple, with cotton yarn, but they seem very bulky. Can you give me any advise? Guest guest
You do have to get used to the knitted dishcloths, at first I could only use them to wipe the stove, counter, table. But then I got used to handling them and like their weight. You can see my recent ones on my blog, if you want. http://blogs.delphiforums.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?webtag=cozy_at_home & nav=start
