Guest guest
I became a Vegetarian 25+ years ago and I've never looked back. In the begining it was not easy only because at that time I was the first and only Vegetarian in our family. No restaurants offered Vegetarian meals and there was no such thing as organic in our area. I love and respect all life including the gift of life that edible plants give to me. I love being a Vegetarian and sometimes refer to myself as a " wanna be Vegan " . I could easily become a Vegan except for wearing some fabrics such as silk and wool. I am so proud to be a member of this group. Deanna in Colorado
Guest guest
Sounds like me. I have been a vegetarian for 30+ years, but I am afraid I will never become a vegan. The food part would be easy, but I am a knitter and I cannot imagine giving up the gift that sheep give us- -wool. I could live without silk, but wool and all of its wonderful colors, now that is another issue. Guest guest
Isn't there a word for those who are dietarily vegan, but still use silk and wool. If there isn't, you should invent one. Guest guest
Yeah, it's tricky. I do understand that true vegans object to the term being used loosely because it drives me crazy when someone calls himself or herself vegetarian who eats chicken or fish. I follow a vegan diet (mostly) but I do use silk and wool. So I don't say I'm vegan, but I say I follow a vegan diet. Vegans also don't eat honey, by the way. I can't remember the last time I ate honey - I use agave and maple syrup to sweeten, but I wouldn't refuse something that had a bit of honey in it either. Guest guest
I went for about four years eating chicken and fish, then dropped the chicken for two, dropped the fish about a year and a half ago now. Don't know why it took me awhile. I guess I was working out a plan to make it a lifetime commitment. I do know I'm much happier with this lifestyle, and I feel better in my spirit. I feel closer to the planet and spiritually sound as a result. My husband and daughter and I eat only vegetarian in our home, and they've begged me not to go vegan--LOL. I don't see that happening, but one never knows.... I don't insist on them following my choice, but they enjoy eating vegetarian in our house. Heck, worst case scenario, what American wouldn't do well to give up meat twice a day for health reasons alone? I'm hoping eventually my family will make the all-vege choice, but I know that everyone has to come to that place by themselves.
