Guest guest
I used to love pot pies, but now that I've stopped eating meat I have not found any vegetarian pot pies in the freezer sections of grocery stores. There are several great sounding vegetarian pot pie recipes out there, but one of the great (read: highest calorie, lol) parts of the pot pie is the crust all around. I've looked for pie plates that are about the size of one of the pot pies you can buy in the freezer section but I haven't found them. Has anybody run across those? If worse comes to worse I supposed I could buy a dozen cheap pot pies, feed the contents to my boyfriend (who does eat meat) and then keep the aluminum pans to cook my own in. I know some brands use paper pie pans these days so folks can microwave them so I'd have to figure out what brands still use aluminum pans. But if anybody knows of a source of actual glass or metal pie pans in the personal pie size, please let me know. Thanks! Guest guest
I buy AMY'S Vegetable Pot Pies through Azure Standard. They are really good, but have a little more gravy than I like so I usually sop up the extra gravy with french bread. Delish! Katie. " Susan B. Guest guest
If you have a Super Target they carry many of Amy's frozen and canned products. We love the Amy's frozen Indian dinners especially. . http://www.amyskitchen.com/products/category_view.php?prod_category=4 The other day we were shopping out of town all day and I went by a Super Target and bought 3 of those. We stopped at a gas station and they let us use their microwave to heat them in. We sat in our car in the AC and enjoyed them very much. I've done this while we are on the road on trips too and bring food in a cooler for meals that need to be heated and stop at gas stations. Most all gas stations have a microwave and don't mind you using it. Also great for makeing a fresh hot bag of microwave popcorn. Guest guest
You can use Pyrex 20 oz. individual custard dishes for small pot pies. I don't know if they still make them anymore but you can find them on ebay. Anchor Hocking also made individual casseroles...they are also found on ebay. So did McKee Glass Co.....again, on ebay. I have a quite a few larger custards made by all of these companies. Try this one # 320241594878 on ebay. This one is not for Pyrex baking dishes, it is a " knock-off " but they are the right size and are oven proof: # 140230169763 These are oval and not as deep but would work....they are Pyrex from the 80's: # 350049266632......Corning also made a very small pie plate with fluted edges that would work but it is pretty shallow: # 310024941890. This Fire King dish could also be used: # 360048888237 and these also (just don't wash peach luster in the dishwasher if you want them to stay nice looking: # 270235384027 Taylor, Smith & Taylor also made a line of oven-proof pottery which included individual serving size pieces like this one: # 250244607266 and another listing for 2 TS & T Oven Serve individual casseroles: # 200221618541. Hall China also made individual casseroles like this one with a handle and cover: # 250243972861 Also, if you do an ebay search for.....corning grab it.......you will find a about 67 auction listings for this little individual baker from the Corning Corningware line that would work.....some have their lids and some do not but all would work. So, if you want to you can have quite a selection for your vegetarian pot pies that with just a modicum of good care, will last you a lifetime as most of them are probably 45 to 65 years old now and still as good as the day they were made. Good luck and I hope this helps in your search!! Nancy C. Guest guest
Could you use large muffin tins? I am thinking that aluminum tins would be good, my hubby might join yours in finishing off those meaty pies- the cheaper and worse for you, the more he enjoys it! LOL What if you used large soufle cups? or the little boat-type plates that some side-dishes come in? I know what I mean, but can't explain it, sorry. Cassie " Susan B.
