Uhura, find easy recipes and branch out. No guarantee though. I could live in

the kitchen but I HATE arts and crafts and any type of sewing so maybe you might

not ever enjoy it. Make more one pot meals, make things you can freeze and thaw

out for another meal. You can use a rice cooker and crockpot. That might help

you.

picky eater and learning to like to cook

I'm a picky eater and hate cooking. But I see the pictures or

descriptions of recipes and some look so good.

How do I make myself like cooking? Did liking it come naturally for

all of you or is there anyone else that had to teach themself to like

doing it?

Thanks,

Uhura

Uhura,

Cooking is fun and so easy. Best of all you get to eat great food when you cook

and bake for yourself. It is well worth any effort.

Growing up I learned to cook a variety of local fresh veggies in simple

delicious ways. Not overcooked. My mom was a nurse and many of the fellow

nursing staff had husbands that were farmers and we got to go pick lots of fresh

produce after the fields had been picked for the market. My mom didn't make

any casseroles, or out of the ordinary veggies. We were raised vegetarian and

enjoyed the many Worthington/Loma Linda meat substitutes. Those are so

amazing, quick to use, versatile and delicious.

When I got out on my own, I started buying cookbooks and drooling over those

recipes and ones in magazines and the food section of the newspaper. I cut out

recipes from magazines and newspapers and put them in a photo albums to

preserved them.

Once I started cooking recipes from cookbooks and those I had clipped, I

realized what a wonderful world of taste was at my finger tips if I cooked/baked

and that is where the true love of cooking came. You limit your taste buds and

yummy food to eat, when you don't cook. That would be a shame. Cooking and

baking are very easy. My 14 & 17 old daughters say that too and can't imagine

why anyone wouldn't like it or do it.

Now that you've joined this group, you've got wonderful tried and true

vegetarian recipes at your finger tips in our recipe files.

Just start making a menu

from it and you'll be hooked. It is an evolving process that you feel more and

more enjoyment, pride and enjoy branching out and trying things prepared in new

and many different ways.

Retrain those taste buds to not be picky. You've got to many health delicious

vegetarian foods out there than to deprive yourself of them.

Have fun and use that kitchen,

Judy

I'm not all that thrilled with cooking (have always loved to bake, though), but

I do it for a variety of reasons....

1.? Choices for non cooks usually?are limited to eating out, frozen, salads,?or

takeout; none of which hold all?

???? that?much?appeal for me except for the salads and that can eventually

become boring.

2.? Cooking is usually less expensive than the aforementioned.

3.? I know what goes into what I prepare at home, the conditions it was prepared

under,?and I can avoid those 20?

???? letter?words that I can't pronounce and that?will?surely?poison me

sooner?than later.

4. ?I really?prefer the taste of?my own cooking.

I would suggest finding a recipe that appeals to you (even if it's only once a

week) and prepare it.? The finished product might be incentive for you to

continue cooking.? Also keep in mind that you are what you eat....that too,

should be great incentive.

Uhura,

I had to teach myself to cook and to *like* doing it. I don't always

enjoy cooking and in the summer I'm often too busy and the weather is

too hot for cooking indoors. So on a day when I am in the mood for

cooking a make a double batch and freeze it for a later meal.

Cooking for me is fun when I can prepare exactly what I like and what

I am hungry for. I thought I was a picky eater until I became a

Vegetarian. Now I love to try different fruits, veggies and grains.

Our tastes change from when we were younger, so try something new.

There is a great sense of accomplishment when you prepare a meal and

set a pretty table. Invite someone to share your meal, that helps

when they praise your cooking.

TM,

This is excellent advise. I agree with all of you points including

eating out. I dislike eating out because I am always thinking about

what else was prepared on the grill or how clean or healthy the

kitchen and staff are. I too like knowing exactly what goes in my

food. My definition of Vegetarian and the chef's are often quite

different. I also use mostly organic and that is not going to happen

in a reg. restaurant. I haven't eaten 'take-out ' for so many years I

have no idea what's out there. You said it all when you said we are

what we eat. Not a doubt in my mind.

I don't really like to cook, but I do like the product of my labor,

lol. By the time dinner comes around, my 4 kids have me exhausted -

standing in a hot kitchen over a hotter stove is not my idea of a good

time -- BUT I always enjoy what I've made! I just have to remind

myself it's worth the effort, lol.

I also agree w/ the post that said, on the days you are enjoying

cooking, make extra! When I make certain things, like cookies, or

pumpkin bread, or anything that goes in the crockpot - I cook a lot and

freeze some for next time.

One thing I do love though is music, so I bought myself a cool radio/cd

player that goes under one of my kitchen cabinets. I'll turn it on and

blare my music and honestly that really helps me to have more fun in

the kitchen -- I cook a lot more often now than I did b/4 I got it,

plus it gives my kids a good laugh to watch mommy singing and dancing

to " old people music " , lol (I'm 32!!)
