Guest guest
Has anyone used Madhur Jaffrey's vegetarian cookbooks? I saw her on Sara Moulton's Sara's Weeknight Meals and she seems to really know her food. Sara mentioned that Madhur had a couple of vegetarian cookbooks. I found two on Amazon: Madhur Jaffrey's World Vegetarian and Madhur Jaffrey's World-of-the-East Vegetarian Cooking Both are highly rated there. Anyone use either? Guest guest
You bet. She is excellent and I have her World Vegetarian cookbook. It won the James Beard Foundation Award for Excellence. I highly recommend this cookbook. Some of her other cookbooks are more Indian dishes and those aren't my favorites but don't let that stop you if you enjoy Indian cooking. Guest guest
I have both. The World of the east is all falling apart and stained in many pages, I have used it a lot. I do not care for her procedures, I change the technique so as not to dirty every single pan in the kitchen (which would happen if I was to follow her instructions) but I use the ingredients on the list. The first one listed (World vegetarian) was published later and I like the procedures a lot better, everything seems simplified (in a good way). I has huge recipe files for different vegetables, so it is nice to have all these different ethnic recipes for just one vegetable. Nice when you have a large crop of something or the other, or when something is in season, you are eating it often and you want to change how you prepare it. Guest guest
I've had World of the East forever and have mostly used it like I use my New York Times cookbook -- great for the basics but then I have to take into account the reality of what's actually in my kitchen.
