Guest guest
Is there any other place to get iodine besides salt? I am hearing that sea salt doesn't have iodine...is that true. I've been using grey sea salt for years...... Kathleen
Guest guest
Sea vegetables are FULL of iodine. I have some sea vegetables in my smoothie every day. (I have a slugglish thyroid.) It seems to help. In fact, a cookbook I just love (it's called The Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook) includes a recipe that mixes several sea veggies together. I blended them up in my Vitamix and put them in a container. Then I can spoon that mix into smoothies, soups, etc. I don't care for sea veggies when I can _taste_ them. :-) Sharon RAWKAW wrote: > Is there any other place to get iodine besides salt? Guest guest
I will either put a chunk of dulse in my smoothie (not sure how much it is, but I rip off a chunk) or I will use a regular spoonful of the powdered variety. My smoothies are pretty big, so you'll have to experiment. Here's the powdered recipe I use. I make it exactly as given. Some of those sea veggies are STRONG and kinda nasty smelling (to me): Sea Veg Mix Sea vegetables provide vitamins and minerals. This mixture can be cooked with soup, grains, and vegetables. Don't worry if you can't find every ingredient listed. Just use whatever you can find. 1/2 cup hiziki 1/2 cup arame 1/4 cup dulse 1/4 cup broken up wakame 2 tbsp granulated kelp Place sea vegetables in blender. Grind until course powder. Store in covered jar. Makes about 1/2 cup.
