Guest guest
After Judy's message I feel like I live in a waste land. The only thing that is fresh here locally is asparagus and rhubarb. If I can count local hot house tomatoes that are so tasty that they taste like they came out of a garden in late summer, I won't feel so deprived. I can only get them from on particular green house to have them taste that good. This grower seems to have a magic formula for tomatoes and of course I get them right after they are picked. All the corn fields around here, look like they will be ready to harvest within the week, so the produce stands should be loaded up soon. We love fresh corn on the cob. I love it even raw. Speckled butter beans, field peas with snaps, purple hull peas, lima beans, and cucumbers are already coming in here. Our produce stands have shelling machines, and mix the beans if you desire and I desire. LOL So good cooked together. Okra should be ready within a couple of weeks in the stands too. Peaches are also starting to ripen up in the southern part of our state and are showing in the produce stands and grocery stores. There is a huge peach orchard about 50 miles south of me...and they grow delicious peaches.

Guest guest
I agree! Judy's message almost made me want to move! Asparagus and rhubarb are in season and the fiddleheads are just ending. My chives wintered in a pot on the deck so I have tonnes of those! I get a small organic " good food box " every week and they try to source as much local as possible. So, I'm still eating Ontario apples, carrots, and potatos. Technically they are in season since carrots in particular get sweeter with age. Not unlike myself. Guest guest
In middle Tennessee, the best strawberries are in(and unfortunately almost done) and because it has been so wet and cool lots of greens (which I still haven't totally mastered) it is getting hot now though so I'd imagine we should start to see tomatoes and other summer produce...
