Guest guest
I finally got my order of tvp and veg bouillon. I ordered a sampler and it had flavored tvp granules like sloppy joes. I'm so disappointed, no one (including myself) could eat it. It was horrible - the texture and after taste. I sure hope the rest turns out better. Are there some secrets to using different tvp. I have granules, chunks, chicken flavor, ham flavor, pepparoni flavor and bacon bits flavor. I really wanted this to taste great, so any help would be great. Thanks kelly, FL
Guest guest
Hi Kelly, With tvp I do the following, be it the granules or the chunks, I let it soak in hot water while I prepare the rest of the ingredients. I rinse them very well under the tap. It is important to squeeze them very well to get all the water out before incorporating into the rest of the food so it absorves better any seasoning. I dont know the exact recipe for sloppy joes, but see if you like this here: ..2 tblsp olive oil ..1 big onion, finely minced ..1 big jar tomato pulp, but if you have nice ripe tomatos that would be best ..1 cup tvp granules, measured dry ..2 bayleaves, ..1 tsp curry ..2 cloves ..1 tblsp oregano ..salt to taste Prepare the tvp as abaove. Put olive oli, onions and spices into a saucepan over medium heat. Let it cook until fragrant and onion translucid. Stir in the tvp. Besure it is as dry as possible.let it cook for a minute stirring frequently. Add the tomato. Stir well. Add a bit water as it may start to stick. Let it simmer on low heat for around 15 min, stirring frequently and adding water when necessary. Serve on your favourite buns and Enjoy Let me know if it worked for you Cheers, Beatriz .. --- On Sun, 6/22/08, Kelly Best <bests4him wrote: Kelly Best <bests4him tried tvp sloppy joes Sunday, June 22, 2008, 7:00 PM I finally got my order of tvp and veg bouillon. Guest guest
Aw. I am sorry they didn't taste good to you. I have not tried any flavored TVPs before. Where did you get them from? If you want really yummy veg sloppy joes, we like Yves veggie ground in them. I buy the sloppy joe seasoning packets and use them following the recipe. I often add extra sauted veggies because I like mine to be more vegetably. Onions, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, cabbage, you name it... ~ PT ~ Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony. ~ Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , Kelly Best <bests4him wrote: > > I finally got my order of tvp and veg bouillon. Guest guest
I buy unflavored TVP and when I reconstitute it I add some garlic powder, little paprika, some ketchup or BBQ sauce to the water. I enjoy it. I haven't tried the flavored version. I order it from the one and only MailOrderCatalog I've been buying from those loving hippies since they first started up. I have some unfavored, and thought I'd try making it with that. I too like lots of veggies in my foods. I didn't think of adding chopped up veggies in sloppy joes. Thanks, I'm going to try that.
