Guest guest
I just wanted to share a nice restaurant experience I had yesterday. I took my DD's to a restaurant located in a very diverse part of town known for its love of freedom and expression. It is call the Melt. Very small and very quaint place with mix and match chairs and tables. I loved the menu from the start. The majority of their expertise is on vegetarian and vegan cuisine. I ordered the " vegan melt " and rosemary roasted red potatoes with curry catsup. My " vegan melt " was on whole grain bread, baked tofu, house spread, and roasted green peppers and onions. I was so wowed by my dish; that there are no words for it. The entire dish had so much flavor and personality to it. The presentation was phenomenal and was on bright colored plates and bowls. And I really liked the fact that any dish that is vegetarian can be veganized (?) very easily if that particular sandwich or menu item appeals to you. I really liked that they had a sign up that said, to let them know if you are vegan. I couldn't eat my entire sandwich, so I had it wrapped to take with me along with the huge salad my youngest daughter could not consume. I ate the sandwich later cold and it was just as good cold as it was being served warm! That just tells you that the food was just that good! Yum Yum! The atmosphere was very diverse and beautifully eclectic as far as the patrons goes. It is my very first experience being out in restaurants as a vegetarian, besides Panera and that was less than desirable because of a very scant menu selection if you are vegan. I will write them to let them know and make sure that they get added to Veg*n sites that are looking for new restaurants that pop up for Veg*ns. I will also make sure to write them a good review. -Gypsy
Guest guest
I loved your description and enthusiasm for such a great meal! How nice not to be treated like a second-class citizen in a restaurant. All too often, it's like they are convinced that vegetarians/vegans have no taste buds and don't want anything with any flavor. The worst experience I had was when a " fine dining " restaurant offered to make a special vegetarian dish of steamed veggies! --- On Tue, 6/24/08, Gypsy(Curls) <lovemylocks wrote: Gypsy(Curls) <lovemylocks Nice restaurant experience Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 1:01 PM I just wanted to share a nice restaurant experience I had yesterday. Guest guest
You're so right. That seems to be the general consensus around here too. But it is changing in some areas in Cincinnati. We have a lot of ethnic restaurants than we've ever had especially around the UC campus. Usually around college campuses you will find lots of vegetarians, so they are the first to be catered too. And then the rest of us flock to those restaurants. The area that the restaurant sits in is just outside the main campus area where a lot of college kids live as well. The restaurant is very grassroots in nature. Until becoming vegetarian I had not really thought much of the area as a food source. We have a lot of Indian, Thai, and African cuisine that did not exist more than 5 years ago. There is a lot more to choose from now and that is such a good thing. I have tried a few other places around here to see if they could make something for me to eat and they gave me the " put upon look. " When that happens I do not stay or even put myself through any hassles to receive a decent meal or receiving a meal smothered in cheese. I just don't trust those types of atmospheres with my diet. As I read books, it has taught me that I am the only one that will see that I am taken care of when it comes to restaurants. So, I prepared myself for the hassle of eating out and possible attitudes towards veg*ns and how we can be viewed. Hopefully one day most people if not all will be veg*n. :-) Ahhhhhh, what a beautiful thought! And at least we won't be starring down some mushy steamed veggies anymore. -Gypsy </message/67468;_ylc=X3oDMTJzY 2Y3dm1tBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE2MDkyMDQwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA0MTcxNgRtc2dJZ AM2NzQ2OARzZWMDZG1zZwRzbGsDdm1zZwRzdGltZQMxMjE0MzM4Mzc4> Re: Nice restaurant experience Posted by: " Ellen Lederman " <ellenled?Subject=%20Re%3A%20Nice%20restaurant%20experience > ellenled <http://profiles./ellenled> ellenled Tue Jun 24, 2008 11:54 am (PDT) I loved your description and enthusiasm for such a great meal! Guest guest
Oh thank you! I am taking my mother there for her birthday. She is open to veg*nism! I am so excited and hopefully having great food to try first hand will help her take the leap. The restaurant is right here in Cincinnati, Ohio and it is called the Melt located at 4165 Hamilton Ave. They do have a website called www.northsidemelt.com <http://www.northsidemelt.com/> . If you are ever up here, I would gladly take you! -Gypsy </message/67474;_ylc=X3oDMTJzN WFhMmMxBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE2MDkyMDQwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA0MTcxNgRtc2dJZ AM2NzQ3NARzZWMDZG1zZwRzbGsDdm1zZwRzdGltZQMxMjE0MzU3NzIx> Re: Nice restaurant experience Posted by: " Jilly34689 " <Jilly34689?Subject=%20Re%3A%20Nice%20restaurant%20experience > Jilly34689 <http://profiles./jillianbmarsh> jillianbmarsh Tue Jun 24, 2008 1:30 pm (PDT) I wish we had something like that around here!
